Job Overview
The Oncology Care Advocate partners with Oncology Nurse Navigators to support members throughout their cancer journey. As a key member of the Cancer Support team, this role delivers a concierge-level experience by providing personalized assistance to patients, families, and caregivers while helping them navigate healthcare system barriers.
Oncology Care Advocates support business success by building strong relationships and creating meaningful member experiences. They provide education and resources that help members make informed decisions and access quality health and psychosocial care throughout every phase of the cancer journey.
Key responsibilities include answering member questions, gathering medical records, coordinating care with existing providers or second-opinion resources, arranging travel, outreaching to eligible new members, and following up on the member experience.
Successful Oncology Care Advocates engage new members and consistently go above and beyond to support those navigating the complexities of oncology care. This role requires commitment, energy, and a passion for improving the cancer care experience for patients and caregivers. Candidates must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment focused on service excellence.

Responsibilities and Duties:
- Guide and support patients and families throughout the cancer and survivorship experience.
- Collaborate with healthcare team members to support positive patient outcomes and experiences.
- Assist patients and caregivers in identifying service needs, goals, and objectives.
- Provide education and support to patients and families.
- Identify patient needs and collaborate with appropriate support staff to address them.
- Reinforce understanding of available treatment options in coordination with the Nurse Navigator.
- Communicate physician-recommended care plan information in collaboration with the Nurse Navigator.
- Connect patients and families with appropriate community resources.
- Support nurses in coordinating multidisciplinary care from diagnosis through treatment.
- Help improve the timeliness of appointments and care coordination activities.
- Support nursing staff with administrative needs.
- Request, receive, and organize medical records.
- Coordinate patient travel arrangements.
- Conduct outreach to eligible new members to introduce available oncology support services.
- Follow up with members to support engagement, answer questions, and help address barriers to care.
- Manage an assigned caseload of survivorship patients.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, social services, public health, or a related field required; equivalent work experience may be considered.Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or other relevant healthcare certification preferred.
- Previous experience in patient support, healthcare navigation, care coordination, member advocacy, or a related healthcare support role preferred.
- One to three years of experience in customer service, member engagement, outreach, or a similar service-oriented role preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and empathetically with members, caregivers, providers, and internal partners.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment with clinical and non-clinical staff to support coordinated, member-centered care.
- Ability to build trust, listen actively, and adapt communication style to meet the needs of diverse members, caregivers, and team members.
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, organization, and follow-up skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate documentation in a fast-paced environment.
