Where Do We Need Your Help?
We’re a high-growth technology company with top-rated products, including the leading home energy monitor and a top-selling EV charger. As we expand beyond our early adopters to a broader consumer base, we need a highly organized Compliance Officer (UL & IMDS Specialist) to manage and maintain all compliance certifications across Emporia’s product lines.
Role Overview
In this role you will ensure UL, IMDS and general compliance for Emporia's existing and new products. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, thrive in a structured environment, and work effectively across engineering, production, and CM (Contract Manufacturer) teams.
Responsibilities
- UL Compliance:
- Manage and maintain all UL certifications for existing products.
- Work closely with product development teams to ensure new products meet UL standards from the design phase.
- Coordinate and facilitate UL audits and inspections.
- Stay updated on changes to UL standards and communicate impacts to relevant teams.
- IMDS Compliance:
- Responsible for the creation, submission, and maintenance of IMDS data sheets for all components and products.
- Collaborate with suppliers to collect accurate and complete material data.
- Analyze IMDS data to ensure compliance with global environmental regulations (e.g., RoHS, REACH).
- Provide training and support to internal teams on IMDS requirements and processes.
- General Compliance:
- Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and implement compliance procedures and documentation.
- Partnering with and influencing internal and external stakeholders to drive needed change and the execution of compliance programs.
- Investigate and resolve compliance issues and discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate and organized records of all compliance activities.
- Stay informed of new and evolving regulations and industry best practices.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in a compliance role, with at least 2 years specializing in UL and IMDS.
- Technical Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of UL standards and certification processes
- Extensive experience with the IMDS platform, including data entry, analysis, and reporting
- Familiarity with global environmental regulations such as RoHS, REACH, and California Proposition 65
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Proactive and results-oriented mindset
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Master's degree in a relevant field
- Certification in compliance (e.g., CCEP, CIPC)
- Experience with other product safety certifications (e.g., CE, FCC)
- Knowledge of supply chain compliance processes
