Position Summary:
The Director, Cloud Infrastructure is responsible for building, scaling, and operating Empower Pharmacy’s cloud foundation to ensure uninterrupted delivery of life-impacting therapies. This role owns reliability, security, compliance, and cost discipline across patient-critical, FDA-regulated systems supporting manufacturing, quality, and fulfillment. The Director designs resilient architectures that anticipate failure, scale predictably, and remain audit-ready under hyper-growth. A core mandate of the role is leveraging artificial intelligence to improve infrastructure reliability, forecast demand, prevent incidents, and optimize spend while maintaining explainability and regulatory trust. This leader builds and develops a high-performing infrastructure organization from the ground up, enforcing clear ownership, disciplined execution, and leadership depth. Operating with executive judgment, the Director partners closely with Quality, Security, Legal, and Operations to manage enterprise risk, lead through audits and incidents, and ensure infrastructure never becomes a constraint to Empower’s mission or patient outcomes.
Responsibilities:
Patient-Critical Cloud Architecture and Scale
- Design cloud architectures that treat downtime, data loss, and latency as patient-impacting events.
- Build scalable platforms supporting manufacturing, quality, and fulfillment without repeated redesign.
- Eliminate single points of failure through deliberate redundancy and disciplined standards.
AI-Driven Reliability, Forecasting, and Automation
- Deploy AI to predict infrastructure failures using telemetry and anomaly detection.
- Apply machine learning to forecast capacity, align spend to demand, and eliminate waste.
- Implement AI-driven automation with guardrails, logging, and human override paths.
Security, Compliance, and Risk Ownership
- Embed FDA compliance, traceability, and access controls directly into infrastructure design.
- Protect data integrity through encryption, monitoring, and segregation of duties.
- Identify, communicate, and mitigate enterprise infrastructure risk with executive clarity.
Team Architecture and Leadership Development
- Design and scale an infrastructure organization aligned to regulated system boundaries.
- Hire P90-level talent with experience in high-growth, regulated environments.
- Develop leaders through clear expectations, feedback, and succession planning.
Operational Excellence and Executive Partnership
- Define service-level objectives tied to manufacturing and patient delivery outcomes.
- Lead incident preparedness, response, and systemic learning.
- Represent infrastructure during audits, incidents, and executive reviews with confidence.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Deep expertise in cloud architecture, reliability engineering, and security for regulated, high-availability environments, including FDA-regulated workloads and audit-ready systems.
- Advanced understanding of applied AI and machine learning for infrastructure monitoring, forecasting, automation, and cost optimization with explainability and governance.
- Proven ability to design scalable operating models, execution rhythms, and metrics in hyper-growth organizations.
- Strong executive communication skills with the ability to translate technical risk, tradeoffs, and outcomes into business and patient impact terms.
Experience and Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience leading cloud infrastructure, reliability, or platform engineering teams in high-growth environments.
- Demonstrated success operating regulated, audit-intensive systems with executive-level risk ownership.
- Proven track record building and scaling teams, leaders, and operating models from the ground up.
- Experience applying AI or advanced analytics to infrastructure operations, forecasting, or automation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
