Position Summary:
The Senior Cost Accountant owns the economic truth of Empower’s manufacturing and compounding operations at scale. This role ensures product cost, margin, and inventory economics are accurate, timely, decision-grade, and audit-defensible across a complex 503A/503B environment. The position enables pricing discipline, capacity decisions, regulatory confidence, and patient access by translating cost data into actionable insights. Operating with minimal oversight, this individual builds scalable systems, leverages automation and AI to accelerate execution, and delivers insights that influence real-time decisions. Success is measured by decision velocity, margin protection, audit readiness, and the scalability of cost systems in a high-growth environment.
Responsibilities:
Own Cost Truth at Scale
- Own end-to-end product costing across materials, labor, overhead, and allocations, delivering accurate and timely cost data for pricing, sourcing, and capacity decisions.
- Investigate cost and inventory variances at the transaction level, quantify financial impact, and drive corrective actions with operational partners.
Protect and Expand Margin
- Build and maintain SKU, formulation, and customer margin models to identify profit leakage and growth opportunities.
- Support pricing discipline by embedding cost assumptions, guardrails, and post-launch margin tracking into pricing workflows.
Build Systems That Scale
- Design scalable costing workflows, controls, and templates to reduce manual effort and eliminate recurring errors.
- Own cost and inventory data integrity within ERP systems, ensuring alignment from production through financial reporting.
Leverage Automation and AI
- Develop automation solutions to accelerate reconciliations, variance analysis, and anomaly detection while maintaining auditability.
- Apply advanced analytics to generate forward-looking insights that support pricing, sourcing, and operational decisions.
Drive Individual Ownership and Impact
- Lead complex cost initiatives end-to-end, managing priorities, timelines, and risk identification independently.
- Establish repeatable processes, documentation, and tools that scale performance and improve consistency.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Deep expertise in cost accounting, inventory valuation, and margin analysis within manufacturing or regulated environments.
- Advanced proficiency with ERP systems, data modeling, and analytical tools.
- Experience applying automation, AI, or scripting to improve accounting processes and decision-making.
- Ability to translate complex cost drivers into clear, actionable insights for diverse stakeholders.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- 4+ years of progressive experience in cost accounting, inventory, or manufacturing accounting.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting principles.
- Experience with ERP systems and accounting tools; interest in automation and process improvement preferred.
- Demonstrated ownership of cost systems, margin analysis, or inventory economics that influenced business decisions.
- Proven ability to work independently, deliver insights quickly, and build scalable systems.
