Position Summary:
The Pharmacy Technician, Non-Sterile Compounding delivers measurable business impact by producing high-quality, customized non-sterile medications that expand patient access in a high-growth 503A/503B environment.
This role owns end-to-end compounding execution, ensuring precision, compliance, and throughput across formulations. The Technician operates within strict USP, FDA, and state requirements to safeguard product integrity while supporting scalable production, documentation accuracy, and operational excellence.
Responsibilities:
Compounding Operations
- Prepare non-sterile compounded medications, including creams, gels, capsules, and solutions, by accurately weighing, mixing, and labeling ingredients.
- Execute compounding procedures in strict adherence to SOPs, ensuring traceability, documentation accuracy, and compliance with USP 795/800, FDA, OSHA, and state board requirements.
- Perform in-process and final verification checks to support product uniformity, potency, labeling accuracy, and quality standards.
Equipment and Systems
- Operate compounding equipment such as capsule fillers, ointment mills, and blister pack machines according to validated operating parameters.
- Clean and maintain compounding equipment according to established schedules to support safety, reliability, and compliance.
- Accurately complete batch records and production documentation using systems such as LifeFile.
Compliance and Collaboration
- Follow USP, FDA, OSHA, ANSI, and state regulatory requirements for non-sterile compounding activities.
- Apply proper PPE usage, hazardous material handling, and safety practices to maintain a safe and controlled compounding environment.
- Partner with Quality, Regulatory, and Production teams to resolve issues, improve processes, and support continuous improvement.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong knowledge of non-sterile compounding techniques, USP 795/800 standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency with compounding equipment and digital systems such as LifeFile.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify trends, reduce errors, and improve production outcomes.
- Strong attention to detail, accountability, and collaboration skills in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.
Experience and Qualifications:
- 1+ year of experience in non-sterile compounding, combining, admixing, diluting, pooling, reconstituting, packaging, and labeling medications.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree in pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, chemical or industrial engineering, pharmaceutics, or industrial pharmacy preferred.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow technical documents and standard operating procedures.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and use pharmaceutical-grade compounding equipment.
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) or Technician Trainee license required.
- Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Nonsterile Compounding Certificate preferred.
- Lean Six Sigma White Belt preferred.
