Your Impact

As a Software Engineering Lead, you will guide a team of software engineers in the design, development, and implementation of high-quality software solutions, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to align technical strategies with business objectives. Your role involves managing and mentoring team members, defining architectural frameworks, and ensuring project deliverables meet the highest standards of excellence. 

The opportunity

Key responsibilities in this role include:

• Contribute to and lead a team of software engineers in designing, developing, testing, and deploying high-quality software solutions.
• Modify our existing software to correct errors, add functionality, or improve performance.
• Participate in the definition of technical architecture, system design, and implementation strategies for our products.
• Mentor and coach team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
• Collaborate with product management to understand requirements, prioritize tasks, and align engineering efforts with business goals.
• Develop and direct software system testing and validation procedures, programming, and documentation.
• Drive innovation and efficiency by adopting emerging technologies and industry trends.
• Identify and mitigate technical risks, ensuring smooth project execution and delivery.

What you would bring to Encompass

General qualification requirements and experience essential for success in this role include: 

• Proven track record of successful SaaS development projects, from inception to deployment

• Practical understanding of Agile methodologies and best practices

• Extensive proficiency in Java with strong, hands-on experience using Spring Boot.

• Experience in cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management

• Experience with cloud technologies and scalable systems

• Solid understanding of clean, scalable and testable architecture principles and design patterns.

• Strong expertise in Relational Databases (with an emphasis on MySQL), along with proficiency in ORM tools - preferably Hibernate.

• Demonstrated expertise in developing and maintaining RESTful APIs.

Educational or Professional Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent professional
  experience)

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering including 1-2 years of leadership experience

Nice to Haves:

• Experience with front-end development using React

• Experience with wine production software, the wine industry, or ERP/accounting software systems

• Background in architectural design and system integration
