Energy Efficiency Engineer
We are hiring an Energy Efficiency Engineer at Energy 350 to join our energy efficiency research and policy team. This engineer will conduct residential, commercial, and industrial energy efficiency studies for local utility programs and regional entities in the greater Seattle, WA area.
Key Details:
- Location: Seattle, WA or surrounding areas. Positions are hybrid with a mix of working from home and with boots on the ground in the area. Travel to the Portland office is expected from time to time. Relocation assistance is available.
- Travel: Intermittent travel to client sites within the greater Seattle area is required, and some regional travel may be possible.
- Pay: $85,000-$135,000 annually (Engineer III – Senior Engineer) with opportunities for advancement.

Position Overview: The Energy Efficiency Engineer will support a wide range of projects for utilities and regional efficiency groups. Primary tasks include: supporting efficiency program focused research, analyzing field performance data, writing reports, creating and reviewing energy models, and engaging with end-users across the residential, commercial and industrial sectors. This dynamic position requires collaboration and problem-solving with a wide variety of stakeholders ranging from utility program representatives, end users, designers, contractors, manufacturers, and Energy 350 staff.
A typical day may include:
- Creating or reviewing energy models, calculating energy savings, writing technical reports, and reviewing engineering analyses
- Conducting analyses to support efficiency initiatives and regional policies
- Performing on-site Measurement & Verification or data collection efforts to determine energy savings
- Working with mechanical contractors to scope commercial HVAC energy efficiency projects and communicating utility incentive program requirements
- Writing clear and concise technical reports for technical and non-technical audiences
- Influencing energy policy on a program, state, regional and national level
Qualifications:
We are looking for people with a wide range of technical and soft skills. Our engineers are excellent communicators who can deep-dive into a technical analysis while seeing the big picture of each project.
Ideal candidates will have many of the following skills and experience:
- Engineering degree and/or great experience required
- At least 5 years’ experience in the energy efficiency or mechanical engineering field
- Experience analyzing HVAC systems and quantifying annual energy savings
- Understanding of regional energy efficiency measures and programs aimed at the residential, commercial, and/or industrial sectors
- Knowledge of the residential and/or commercial HVAC supply chain, including regional or national market knowledge and experience interacting with contractors or distributors
- Building science knowledge including HVAC design and/or construction administration experience
- Experience with heat pumps for space and/or water heating in the residential and/or commercial sectors
- A high energy, self-starter with excellent organizational skills
- Capability of working autonomously and collaboratively on a team, with good project and time management skills
- Ability to break down complex analyses into easily explainable terms for non-technical audiences
- Solid presentation skills and experience with public speaking
- Excellent writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills
- Excellent Excel skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- P.E., EIT, CEM, and/or CMVP preferred
