As a Sales Executive Japan, you will own the full sales lifecycle—building relationships, uncovering opportunities, and closing new business. You'll serve as a strategic voice in the region, delivering Energy Exemplar’s value proposition to Japanese energy utilities, grid operators, regulatory bodies, consultants, and large energy consumers.
You will work closely with technical experts and customer success teams to ensure every customer interaction delivers value. Your territory includes major Japanese energy stakeholders and rapidly evolving innovators in the decarbonization and digital transformation space, offering exceptional growth potential for an experienced and driven professional.
Key Responsibilities
- New Business Growth: Identify, develop, and close new business opportunities in Japan's energy, utilities, and infrastructure sectors.
- Enterprise SaaS Sales: Lead strategic, consultative sales of complex software solutions (e.g., PLEXOS) to senior stakeholders within utilities, transmission operators (e.g., TEPCO, KEPCO), METI, consultants, and industrial customers.
- Territory Ownership: Develop and execute a territory strategy tailored to Japan’s unique energy mix, regulatory environment, and market dynamics.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with C-level executives, policy advisors, planners, and technical teams to position Energy Exemplar as a trusted partner for Japan’s energy transition goals.
- Pipeline Management: Manage the complete sales cycle—from discovery to contract close—employing best-in-class CRM practices and pipeline discipline.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Solutions Engineers, Marketing, Legal, and Product teams to build tailored proposals and deliver against customer-specific requirements.
- Thought Leadership: Represent Energy Exemplar at regional industry conferences (e.g., Japan Smart Energy Week), webinars, and policy forums to champion advanced planning, grid modernization, and decarbonization.
- Customer Expansion: Work with Customer Success to drive renewals, upsell opportunities, and expanded adoption across new departments, business units, and modelling use cases.
- Market Awareness: Stay attuned to Japan’s evolving energy policy, liberalization efforts, capacity market developments, hydrogen strategies, and competitive landscape across fuels and technologies.
Qualifications
- 10+ years level of experience in enterprise software/SaaS sales, business development, or consulting in complex, multi-stakeholder environments in Japan
- Strong background in the Energy, Utilities, Renewables, or Infrastructure sectors—with experience of the Japanese market
- Proven record of achieving and exceeding sales targets across strategic enterprise accounts
- Expertise in managing full sales cycles with complex software solutions and long lead times
- Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills across both executive and technical audiences
- Ability to engage in discussions around power system modelling, market design, or planning frameworks
- Familiarity with tools like PLEXOS, Aurora, PROMOD, or Japan-specific planning tools is a strong advantage
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, or a related field (advanced degree preferred)
- Native level fluency in Japanese and fluency in English (business-level proficiency minimum in English)
- Willingness to business trip within Japan and overseas
