About the Position
Energy Exemplar is the market leader in Energy Simulation Software. We exist so that our customers can make the most informed decisions at the most impactful times and want you to be part of that success. We are calling for a leader who would be responsible for leading & managing the development of our datasets in Pune as directed and ensuring the energy market analysts are building their models correctly provided project scope and using best practices. You would also be responsible for ensuring quality control and efficient tools and techniques are being employed.

This position works closely and collaboratively with all Energy Exemplar staff but in particular:
• Solutions Team (APAC)
• Sales and Account Management Team (APAC)
• Support Team (APAC/MRA)
• Product Development Team (Global)
• Data Team (Global)
Key Accountabilities and Duties

As a rapidly growing business, it should be expected that the role and associated tasks are likely to evolve over time and that there will be situations where tasks not listed below will need to be undertaken to support region and business growth initiatives.
Accountabilities
• This role oversees production of energy market fundamental model components and standalone models working out of our Pune office using PLEXOS and Aurora
• Oversee the Pune Dataset Team’s development and maintenance of APAC Power and Natural Gas Market models/dataset using PLEXOS and Aurora
Day to day duties
• Lead a team of energy data analysts (with between 1 to 5 years of experience)
• Responsible for ensuring the completion and delivery of accurate updates of specific fundamental data work products as part of PLEXOS dataset development
• Responsible for leading power markets research, analyzing and manipulating data and processing data for input into power market models
• Benchmarking etc. end-to-end process of creation and upgrading of production cost models
• Responsible for maintaining large databases of energy related data. Data sources include data-providers, industry publications, regulatory agencies and web research.
• Running PLEXOS and/or Aurora and interpreting output model results and energy balances
• Comparing models and reviewing preliminary forecast output results for inconsistencies to ensure deliveries meet product scopes and specifications
• Communicate to IDC Analyst team about market modelling best practices and implementing improvements to research and model development
• Problem solving and interpretation of market models and ability to detect errors and omissions
• Troubleshoot market models and intermediate work products for errors, omissions, and improvements.
Candidate Requirements
Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
• An extensive background in energy market modelling
• High level of numeracy, computer, and web literacy.
• A firm understanding of energy economics for power market fundamentals and economic concepts of power markets (and ability to explain these): Reserve Margins, Implied Market Heat Rate, Spark/Dark Spread, etc.
• Knowledge of production cost modelling software’s like PLEXOS (preferred), Aurora or Promod, or similar are required
• Good Knowledge of Power Plant/Natural Gas Economics, Power Systems, Gas supply chain, Operation research/Optimization techniques, statistics, and Energy (Power &/ Gas) Markets/Industry is required .
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and see projects/assignments through from start to finish.
• Self-starter, organized, persistent, goal driven, has a can-do attitude, takes challenges as opportunities to perform and add value
• Demonstrated ability to delegate responsibilities and to manage diverse overlapping projects
• Diligent, systematic, and pays attention to detail to ensure work accuracy and quality
• Continuously looks at ways to add value to the company by taking the initiative in improving processes and identifying business opportunities
• Excellent problem solver
• Punctual, Professional work and phone etiquette
Experience:
• 8+ years of experience with Energy Modeling and Power Market Analysis
• Knowledge of and hands on experience working in several APAC regional power markets possessing in-depth knowledge of their regulation and market operations (e.g.: India, NEM, Philippines…)
• Experience with natural gas markets in Europe and North America would be desirable
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to research and learn new techniques
• Experience in creating and analyzing energy data sets for power models
• Experience working at a market operator, project developer, or at a utility in planning or commercial operations would be an asset
• Consulting work experience providing fundamental analysis and expert opinion for project valuations desirable
• Knowledge of one or more energy economic modeling tools: PLEXOS, Aurora, PROMOD, PSO, Market Analytics and/or PROSYM
• Strong organizational skills, familiarity with Agile/Sprint Best Practices
• Expert skills using Excel, Power BI and similar tools.
Qualifications:
• Master’s degree or Ph.D in Economics (preferred), Electric Engineering (Transmission preferred), or Mathematics.
