Data Scientist II (Hybrid - US)

Boston, Massachusetts, United States; Chicago, Illinois, United States; New York, New York, United States; Oakland, California, United States; Orange, California, United States; Pacific Northwest

Interested in joining a growing company where you will work with talented colleagues, enhance a supportive and energetic culture, and be part of the climate solution? At Energy Solutions, we focus on the big impacts. And we believe that market-based programs can be a powerful force to deliver large-scale energy, carbon, and water-use savings. Since 1995, we’ve harnessed that power to offer proven, performance-based solutions for our utility, government, and institutional customers.

We are currently seeking a full-time Data Scientist II to join our Energy Efficiency team to support our market transformation programs, with a focus on building electrification. In this role, you will work closely with a team of data scientists, data engineers, and technical project managers and will collaborate with engineers and program managers.

The Data Scientist II in this role will support the application of mathematical models, statistics, data visualization, and data engineering to answer important questions. Examples of such questions include, “What would be the energy, environmental, economic, and health impacts of this proposed regulation?” “How can we predict which households will be most likely to switch to electric equipment?” “How much more expensive are heat pump clothes dryers when you control for confounding variables?” “What percentage of heat pump sales have gone to households living in Disadvantaged Community census tracts, within a 95% confidence interval?” Modeling will include statistical analysis as well as bottom-up, stock-rollover models rooted in principles of economic and engineering analysis.

As with all consultants at Energy Solutions, the Data Scientist II will work on an evolving portfolio of various projects, including some multi-year initiatives and shorter-term projects. A typical week consists of a mixture of team meetings, working sessions with other team members, asynchronous collaboration, and individual work.

This position is contingent upon Energy Solutions securing the consulting engagement it’s tied to. Once the contract is awarded to us, we’ll be ready to move forward quickly; however, if it does not come through, we will not be able to proceed with the position. Confirmation of the contract is expected by late September, with the expectation that the selected candidate will start in October.

This is a hybrid work opportunity.  At ES, this means working onsite at one of our offices a minimum of 1 day/week (currently Wednesdays) with flexibility for the remainder of the days. ES has offices in Oakland, CA, Portland, OR, Chicago, IL, and Boston, MA. At this time, we are not accepting applications from candidates residing in the following states: Alaska, Delaware, Kentucky, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, and Wyoming.

Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
