Senior Staff Engineer

We are currently seeking a full-time Senior Staff Engineer to join our Energy Efficiency Team. Senior Staff Engineers provide seasoned technical expertise within and outside the company, using their expertise to lead technical efforts across projects and acting as a primary technical resource in their given technical area or areas. As high-level staff with extensive expertise in one or more technical areas, Senior Staff Engineers support the Company’s efforts by passing their knowledge and practices along to other staff in the interest of increasing the company’s capabilities within their technical area or areas.
Senior Staff Engineers are expected to balance the completion of project tasks with their documentation efforts and will seek to guide more junior staff to complete tasks using the best practices they have developed. They may act as an advisor to supervisors seeking to provide development opportunities for a more junior engineer or project manager by providing resources or guidance themselves. They are expected to support proposal development efforts and communication planning, and to contribute ideas that will shape the Company’s strategic direction or activities.
The Senior Staff Engineer leads the engineering services for multiple energy efficiency programs and projects across the Energy Efficiency Department. This role leads the cross-cutting engineering for one or more technology areas across the Energy Efficiency Department, including new measure development, incremental cost updates, savings updates and documentation, technical training development, client coordination, and technology updates. This role works closely with program leads for their respective technology area to provide best practices for engineering across Energy Efficiency Department programs. This role coordinates across departments with other engineering leads to provide engineering support across the company and also supervises several engineering staff, supporting their growth and performance in the company.
Energy Solutions operates as a predominantly remote workforce with offices in six different locations. Employees who reside within 40 miles of an office (except New York) will be assigned to that location, though in-office attendance requirements may vary by team. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Oversee engineering support for several energy efficiency programs, providing review and oversight to engineering support staff.
- Communicate with clients on engineering needs and deliverables.
- Analysis of energy efficient technologies in the context of energy policy.
- Knowledge of state-documented energy savings methodologies through resources such as Technical Reference Manuals.
- Lead the development of several market studies or technical projects .
- Lead cross-department engineering support in at least one technology / domain area.
- Lead cross-cutting engineering support for the Energy Efficiency Department in at least one technology / domain area.
- Support development of proposals and business development efforts.
- Lead the overall direction, management, quality control, and completion of project deliverables.
- Develop and manage project budgets, schedules and tasks with minimal oversight.
- Monitor the progress of projects and communicating progress to management and clients.
- Provide oversight and review of supporting staff for quality and compliance.
- Supervision of junior engineering staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A Bachelors’ degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, environmental, architectural, or related field).
- A minimum of 10 years’ of engineering or work experience in related area.
- Knowledge of Title 24, ASHRAE 90.1, IECC, and other energy codes.
- Demonstrated ability to write reports, technical papers, and provide technical presentations to knowledgeable audiences.
- Expertise in energy modeling, deep knowledge of EnergyPlus, and experience with large-scale simulations, and data analysis and scripting.
- Project management experience including budget development and management.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to conduct occasional business travel.
Compensation to commensurate with experience with the pay band of $120k - $150k/Annually
