Solar Programs Project Manager I - Consumer Protection (Remote - Chicago, US)

We are currently seeking a Solar Programs, Project Manager I - Consumer Protection to join our Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) Department. As a member of the DERs Department, you will assist with driving customer participation in programs that incentivize the adoption of distributed and community solar. Solar energy is critical in driving our nation’s progress toward a decarbonized grid, and you will play a material role in helping our team make this future a reality.
This position will report to the Senior Project Manager of the Consumer Protection team and will support our work as the Program Administrator for Illinois Shines. Illinois Shines is the statewide incentive program aimed at assisting people across Illinois to more affordably transition to solar power. To meet Illinois’ goal of having 100% of its energy come from renewable energy sources by 2050, it is imperative that consumers’ rights are protected when working with companies registered with the Program. Daily responsibilities:
- Work as a member of a high-performing team to help address complaints by consumers participating in the Illinois Shines program (the “Program”).
- Work with consumers (both telephonically and via email) on their complaints and help facilitate resolution of those complaints with the consumer’s solar companies
- Help identify ways to strengthen consumer protections in the Program.
- Document and categorize complaints received.
- Draft disciplinary-related letters to vendors alleged to have violated Program requirements.
- Conduct informal mediation with Program entities (and unregistered entities and consumers, as necessary) related to alleged Program violations.
- Timely draft pre-disciplinary and disciplinary-related letters to entities alleged to have violated Program requirements, consistent with Disciplinary Action SOP, Illinois Shines Style Guide and related documents concerning letter drafting.
- Update public-facing Consumer Protection Database.
- Follow established SOPs for complaint resolution, disciplinary action, and other processes, including communicating directly with solar vendors and customers.
- Document statistics contributing to disciplinary and complaint reporting.
- Provide educational materials related to consumer protection requirements and best practices for vendors participating in Illinois Shines.
- Contribute to educational workshops on consumer protection topics such as marketing best practices and Program requirements.
- Attend and actively participate in regular internal and client meetings.
- Attend other regular and special department and company-wide meetings, as scheduled.
- Perform and/or manage special projects related to consumer protection issues, as assigned.
Minimum qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in consumer protection, complaint handling, and/or solar energy
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to handle multiple cases
- Extensive experience using Microsoft Office (Office365, SharePoint, OneNote)
- A one page cover letter will be required explaining your interest in the company and the role (the use of AI is prohibited in the drafting)
Desired qualifications:
- Complaint handling experience within the solar energy industry
- Experience with a renewable energy credit program
- Proficiency in Spanish, including written communication
- Experience with Salesforce
The salary range for this role is $69,000–$79,000 with a target compensation of $79,000 based on experience and qualifications

Office Locations and a Remote Workforce
Energy Solutions operates as a predominantly remote workforce with offices in six different locations. Employees who reside within 40 miles of an office (except New York) will be assigned to that location, though in-office attendance requirements may vary by team.
