This is an exciting opportunity for a Quantitative Researcher to join a very dynamic Japan Power Trading Team, based in Tokyo. You will be working closely with Japan Power market experts supported by systems engineers, fundamental analysts, weather scientists. The team operates day-ahead and curve trading based on collaborative trading idea generation, leveraging our advanced proprietary trading models.

This position is based in Tokyo and reports to the Japan Power Trader based in Tokyo.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Solve challenging commercial problems by applying advanced optimization, statistical and ML algorithms.
  • Partner closely with various analytical and trading teams across organization.
  • Build scalable and highly performing analytical tools.
  • Drive projects for the continued build out of the overall state-of-the-art technology platform.

Essential Education:

  • B.S. in either Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
  • plus a M.S. of Science or PhD in a STEM subject

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 1 year hands-on research experience within financial organization
  • Practical knowledge of the latest advances within prediction, classification and optimization algorithms and their application to the commercial problems
  • Strong numerical and programming skills, preferable within Python environment
  • Ability to successfully operate in a fast-paced trading environment
  • Strong communication skills and team spirit
  • Front office commodities (power in particular) experience is not a requirement, deep knowledge in this area will be developed with the support of internal experts.
  • Experience with object-oriented design and programming and or Rust language are a plus.
  • Professional proficiency required in both Japanese and English.
