The Role:
We are seeking a Director of Data Science to lead and scale our data science function. This is a strategic leadership role where you will take a small team and build it into a high-impact function that drives data-driven decision-making, AI-powered optimization, and business intelligence across the company. You will work cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, and Business teams to develop models that enhance pricing, personalization, fraud detection, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

Define and execute the vision and roadmap for Data Science at Engine.
Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing Data Science team.
Develop and deploy machine learning models to optimize pricing, search, and recommendations.
Work closely with engineering to build a scalable data infrastructure.
Partner with product and business leaders to identify opportunities for AI-driven innovation.
Establish best practices for experimentation, model evaluation, and A/B testing.
Advocate for a data-driven culture, ensuring insights drive decision-making at all levels.
Stay ahead of industry trends and emerging AI technologies relevant to travel.

Qualifications:

8+ years of experience in Data Science, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
Experience hiring, mentoring, and scaling data science teams.
Deep expertise in machine learning, predictive modeling, and statistical analysis.
Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, and ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-Learn).
Experience working with large-scale data sets, cloud computing (AWS, GCP, or Azure), and data pipelines.
Background in marketplace, travel, or e-commerce industries is a plus.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex insights into business impact.

Cash compensation: The base salary range for this role is $220,000-$275,000. Final compensation packages are determined by various factors, including prior experience and expertise. This role is also eligible to receive equity compensation.
