Trading Operations Associate

New York

About EG

Engineers Gate (EG) is a leading investment manager founded in 2014 as a quantitative, computer-driven trading firm. Today, EG operates as a diversified, multi-strategy investment platform that combines systematic research with selective discretionary approaches. EG's multi-manager platform allows independent investment teams to pursue distinct strategies while benefiting from shared infrastructure, risk management, and operational support. The firm’s collaborative groups of researchers, engineers, and investment professionals deploy sophisticated statistical models, proprietary technology, and a centralized data platform to isolate and solve challenging problem sets in the global financial markets.

About The Role

Engineers Gate runs a global, follow-the-sun systematic trading operation across equities, futures, FX, fixed income, and credit. We are hiring a Trading Operations Associate to join our global team to sit at the intersection of the trading desk, operations, and engineering to own real-time monitoring of systematic trade flow, execution alerts, automated jobs, and data pipelines; to handle core trade lifecycle workflows including locates, trade capture, trade booking, stock loan recalls, trade files and trade allocations; and to drive resolution of trade blotter breaks and executing-broker discrepancies.

This is a hands-on, high-visibility seat directly facing and supporting all portfolio managers. When something alerts, breaks or drifts, you are the first set of eyes and the first point of contact for portfolio management teams, and you drive the issue to resolution with them, the trading and operation team, engineers and developers, brokers, and vendors. This role requires a technically strong, process-driven professional with high attention to detail and solid communication skills. If you thrive in a fast-paced, data-driven environment, we encourage you to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor systematic trade alerts in real time for rejects, stale orders, fill anomalies, venue/algo failures, risk-limit breaches, and P&L spikes.
  • Watch scheduled technical jobs across the trading stack - BOD/EOD processes, system alerts, vendor data and reference data feeds - and triage failures before they impact trading.
  • Investigate data quality alerts (stock prices and returns, vendor data, FX rates, stale prices) and coordinate fixes with the relevant vendor or source.
  • Manage stock locate file alerts, source single name locate requests, and manage locate outages across strategies and prime brokers. Coordinate with portfolio finance and trading teams on hard-to-borrow names and stock loan recalls.
  • Own trade capture and booking accuracy. Ensure fills and trades are captured cleanly into the database and downstream systems, with correct strategy, account, and economic terms.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact during your shift on execution issues, broker connectivity, OMS/EMS behavior, order-state questions for portfolio managers and all departments.
  • Identify, research, and resolve intraday system trading alerts to address mismatches across FIX order messages, drop copies, OMS GUI, database, and executing brokers.
  • Investigate and resolve trade breaks against executing brokers: quantity, price, side, fees, settlement, and allocation account discrepancies. Engage broker sales contacts directly and escalate where needed.
  • Run thorough handoff between regions with clean, written notes - Address and resolve items handed over to you; add watch items; add items for the next region; and add reminders.
  • Support post-trade flows where they touch monitoring and breaks: allocations, give-ups, exchange/clearing/matching acknowledgements.
  • Execute orders on behalf of, or as backup to, the trading desk under trader direction, primarily working/managing systematic flow, not discretionary risk-taking.
  • Provide backup coverage for team members as needed.

Qualifications

  • 0-3 years in a trading operations, trade support, production support, or operations role at a hedge fund, prop firm, bank trading desk, or execution venue.
  • Bachelor’s degree or directly transferrable and applicable professional experience.
  • Strong inclination towards technical and operational processes. Process-driven mindset with a strong appreciation for operational robustness, controls, and repeatability.
  • Working SQL knowledge to pull, join, and reconcile data without waiting on engineering is a plus.
  • Direct experience monitoring live trading systems - OMS/EMS, FIX flow, algo execution, exchange connectivity (ideally in a systematic or high-message-rate environment) is a plus.
  • Experience with PagerDuty, Airflow, Grafana, or similar monitoring/alerting stacks is a plus.

The base salary for this role is anticipated to be $70,000-$100,000 , excluding potential bonuses, additional compensation, and benefits. Actual compensation will depend on various factors including skills, experience, and qualifications.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
