LAPORTE is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with 8 to 10 years of experience in building HVAC, plumbing and drainage, refrigeration, steam, hot water, and fire protection system design to join our team in Toronto, Ontario. Our Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for designing mechanical systems, managing projects, and supporting cross-functional teams across North America.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Participate in client needs and project definition;
  • Review client specifications;
  • Design utilities and mechanical systems;
  • Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs, drawings, and specifications;
  • Write technical reports and analyses to support design submissions;
  • Review shop drawings for compliance and participate in the development of engineering standards;
  • Visit and survey project sites for project-related activities;
  • Provide construction supervision, conduct document and field reviews;
  • Manage deliverables and project execution;
  • Work collaboratively as part of multidisciplinary design teams located in offices across North America;
  • Provide mentorship to junior technical personnel;
  • Maintain a detailed understanding of local codes and standards applicable to the industry and projects;
  • Maintain a reference set of standards and in-house best practices;
  • Support positive client and other discipline consultant interactions.

Qualifications:

  • Current registration with PEO as an EIT or P.Eng.;
  • to 10 years of experience in building HVAC, plumbing and drainage, refrigeration, steam, hot water, and fire protection system design;
  • Strong knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit is required;
  • Experience in consulting engineering in the pharmaceutical and/or food and beverage industries (an asset);
  • Experience in leading and managing design projects, proposals, on-site commissioning, and/or power system studies in a fast-paced environment;
  • Good knowledge of industry and regulatory standards and design criteria;
  • Proficiency in various standard engineering methods and techniques;
  • Flexibility to travel to client sites;
  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment;
  • Experience with Revit MEP software;
  • Team player with excellent communication skills;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment;
  • Strong technical skills;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams;
