Senior Data/ML Engineer

New York, NY, San Francisco, CA or Los Angeles, CA

The Opportunity

This is an exciting time at Enigma. We’re on the cusp of releasing our next generation of small business intelligence products built on years of learnings in the space. We are seeking an experienced Senior Data/ML Engineer to join our team and help shape the trajectory of these products. Your work will directly impact the accuracy, scalability, and predictive capabilities of our data platform, influencing key business decisions for our customers.

The Role

As a Senior Data/ML Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining our core small business data product. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to build out new product capabilities starting from raw source data, through scalable data pipelines and models to the customer interface. We embrace customer focus and end-to-end ownership so your impact will be measured by the value we deliver and the technical quality and maintainability of our product.

What You’ll Do

  • Understand the unmet needs of our customers and create capabilities to address these.  This usually involves a process of exploring data, prototyping, and evaluation followed by the build of robust and maintainable data pipelines.
  • Engineer scalable, maintainable data/ML systems that tell the story of millions of U.S. small businesses (we use Databricks SQL, PySpark, and MLFlow).
  • You’ll be building on top of our innovative data infrastructure that’s designed for iteration and experimentation (uses Dagster for orchestration and LakeFS for data versioning).
  • Apply a data-focused, first-principles approach to problem solving that biases to the simplest solution but that extends through the latest LLMs when required.
  • Inspire your teammates to perform at their best while fostering a collaborative, supportive team culture.

What Makes This Role Exciting?

  • Ownership and Impact: Work directly with customers and internal teams to build product capabilities in an environment of high-trust and responsibility.
  • Technical Challenge: Tackle complex data and engineering problems, balancing speed of innovation with scalability and reliability.
  • Learning: Work on unique, high-impact data challenges that require creative problem-solving and cutting-edge ML techniques.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Has 5+ years of engineering experience, including 3+ years working on distributed data and ML systems.
  • Thinks creatively about problem solving and has a good sense for extracting value from data.
  • Cares deeply about creating value and wants to learn, ship, and iterate quickly.
  • Strong collaboration skills and a desire to work in a cross-functional environment.
  • A principled, metrics-driven approach to solving complex data problems.

Bonus Points If You

  • Have experience working as both a software engineer and a data scientist.
  • Have built data products in the marketing, KYB, or credit underwriting space.

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
