Hydrology & Hydraulics Engineer

We are currently seeking a full-time Hydrology & Hydraulics Engineer for our Houston, TX office.  This is an excellent opportunity to join and grow EnSafe, getting involved in a variety of projects for a diverse range of clients worldwide.

As a Hydrology & Hydraulics Engineer, you will work on a diverse portfolio of public and private sector projects while contributing technical expertise and supporting project delivery in an environment that fosters creativity, collaboration at all levels, a culture of support, and professional growth. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role, you will:

• Support and manage hydrology and hydraulics projects from planning through completion for public and private sector clients.
• Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for flood studies, drainage improvements, stormwater management systems, watershed evaluations, and related civil infrastructure projects.
• Develop and review HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS (1D/2D) models and interpret results to support engineering recommendations and design decisions.
• Prepare technical reports, calculations, exhibits, and engineering documentation that meet client, regulatory, and industry standards.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, scientists, and other technical professionals to deliver multidisciplinary projects.
• Assist with project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and resource coordination to support successful project delivery.
• Communicate technical findings and recommendations to clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies in a clear and concise manner.
• Support permitting efforts and coordinate with federal, state, and local agencies as required.
• Contribute to proposal development, client relationship management, and the pursuit of new project opportunities.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Minimum Skills and Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related ABET-accredited engineering discipline.
• Engineer in Training (EIT) certification, or the ability to obtain licensure within a reasonable timeframe.
• 3-5 years of experience in hydrology, hydraulics, water resources engineering, or a related field.
• Hands-on experience performing hydrologic and hydraulic analyses using HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS (1D/2D).
• Experience with floodplain analysis, stormwater management, drainage design, watershed studies, and/or flood mitigation projects.
• Working knowledge of GIS applications and related water resources modeling tools.
• Experience preparing technical reports, engineering calculations, and client-ready deliverables.
• Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to evaluate complex problems and develop practical, data-driven solutions.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
• Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• A collaborative, team-oriented approach and willingness to share knowledge and mentor less experienced staff.
• Self-motivated with a desire to learn, grow professionally, and take ownership of project deliverables.
• Strong client service mindset with the ability to build positive working relationships and contribute to project success.
• Willingness to travel occasionally for project site visits, client meetings, and field activities.

Preferred Skills:

• Professional Engineer (PE) license, or the ability to obtain licensure within a reasonable timeframe.
• Experience with FEMA floodplain studies, CLOMR/LOMR processes, and regulatory permitting.
• Familiarity with SWMM, StormCAD, HydroCAD, ArcGIS Pro, or similar modeling and design platforms.
• Experience working in a consulting environment serving public and private sector clients.
• Experience leading project tasks, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, or mentoring junior staff.
