JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for material and labor takeoffs and providing an estimate for electrical wiring and other systems for projects which the Company pursues.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Overview of Typical Duties
    1. Use discretion and independent judgment to prepare estimates of total cost of the work assigned.
    2. Read and interpret blueprints. Prepare sketches showing location of wiring and equipment.  Follow designated job specifications.
    3. Understand the Installation of switchgear, distribution panels, transformers, fire alarm systems, trim, lamp fixtures, and other electrical equipment as needed. Apply knowledge of National Electrical Codes as needed.
    4. Master usage of estimating systems and programs utilized by the Company.
    5. Effectively communicate with other members of the project team.
    6. Perform all other duties as assigned.
    7. Maintain regular and acceptable attendance and punctuality.

D.    Experience

2 years experience as a commercial construction estimator, preferably in electrical work or 5 years field experience in electrical construction.

 

E.    Language Skills

Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, contract and project documents and procedure manuals and convey this information to other employees.  Must be able to read, write and comprehend instructions and memos.  Must also possess sufficient speech, writing and communication skills necessary to effectively communicate with project teams and carry out other job functions and responsibilities.

 

  1. Reasoning Ability

Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists using independent judgment and discretion.  Must have the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form, understand and apply all instructions and safety guidelines and apply mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

JOB PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

 

  1. Complete estimates within time frame specified.
  2. Accuracy of estimates to be within 2% of actual budget upon buyout for projects over $5MM or 5% of actual budget for projects under $5MM.
  3. Completely understand and use EBM estimating program.
  4. Maintain confidentiality of estimates with regard to providing proprietary information to outside sources.
  5. Maintain OSHA 30 certification.
  6. Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.
