ABOUT A WORLD FIT FOR KIDS!
A World Fit for Kids! is a Los Angeles based non-profit organization that has been providing exemplary healthy behaviors programs and training for young people for the past 30 years in order to reduce obesity, increase high school graduation rates, and prepare youth for the workforce. Through A World Fit for Kids! programs children and youth in high-crime and high-poverty neighborhoods discover they do have choices and how they can make positive decisions for their health, education, and future. A World Fit for Kids! also provides physical activity, physical education support, personal empowerment and healthy behaviors training for the adults who work with youth.
ABOUT THE POSITION
A World Fit for Kids! is seeking an Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who is committed to the mission and will carry on the legacy of the founder and outgoing leader. An honest and transparent communicator, this leader will bring fresh ideas and foster a collaborative, energetic atmosphere. Overseeing an annual budget of $3,000,000 and more than 120 passionate, committed professionals, the ideal candidate is a politically savvy leader who has a business mindset and experience in leading a strategic vision. The incoming CEO will continue to develop the team while looking for opportunities to strengthen existing school district partnerships, secure new funding sources, and raise the organization’s visibility in the field.
The incoming CEO should have a demonstrated success in staff development, strengthening infrastructure, and implementing innovative programs that will grow the organization. They will lead strategic planning and development initiatives supported by enhanced fundraising capabilities. The ideal candidate embodies and exemplifies A World Fit for Kids! vision, mission and values and will be able to relate to all stakeholders from students to board members with the mission at heart. They will position A World Fit for Kids! as the go-to organization for promoting, influencing, and impacting healthy behaviors in youth.
Organizational Leadership
- Oversee operations: administration, programming, development, human resources, and finance management to ensure they are consistent with A World Fit for Kids! overall vision, mission, values and goals.
- Oversee implementation, compliance, and expansion of key contracts.
- Keep the Board of Directors informed of any internal or external issues that affect the organization.
- Promote a positive work environment that helps recruit, retain, and support high-quality, energetic, empowered staff in a collaborative culture.
- Work closely with and support the Board of Directors, including planning retreats, committee meetings, agendas, and reports.
- Review and recommend improved organization policies, systems, and procedures.
Strategic Planning/Programming
- Bring fresh ideas and new leadership while promoting the organization’s legacy.
- Work closely with the Board, senior staff, and key stakeholders to support A World Fit for Kids! vision and mission, set goals, and measure outcomes.
- Seek new opportunities through programming growth that responds to the needs of the communities that A World Fit for Kids!
- Support Board recruitment goals.
Fund Development & Financial Management
- Oversee development planning and implementation in collaboration with Board of Directors and development team.
- Attract new donors and enhance fundraising capabilities through new corporate and foundation development.
- Supervise financial planning, ensuring stability and sustainability through alignment of the financial plan, overall strategy, and short and long-term goals.
Community Engagement
- Act as chief spokesperson for the organization, building trust with key constituents, partners, media, elected officials, peer organizations, and the community at large.
- Serve as an advocate for physical activity and healthy behaviors in youth at a policy and planning level.
- Develop communications strategy for branding and marketing in media to enhance the visibility of A World Fit for Kids!.
- Meet with participants, volunteers, donors and the greater community to improve services and generate community involvement.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of 8 years’ experience in progressively responsible roles within a nonprofit organization.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience, visible involvement, and participation in the field of child health and wellness.
- A proven track record managing a strategic planning process, resulting in improved efficiency, program effectiveness, and sustainability of an organizational budget.
- Demonstrated fundraising success with individual donors, foundations, and corporate partnerships resulting in overall organizational growth.
- Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and development of staff and Board members.
- Demonstrated experience in honest, transparent staff management, organizational excellence, and effective delegation and teamwork.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
This is an exempt full-time, in-office position. Salary range of $140,00 - $165,000 and includes a comprehensive benefits package (i.e., healthcare, dental, vision, and retirement).
