Environmental Manager

As part of the Corporate Environmental Affairs Team, the ESE Environmental Manager will be responsible for the planning, management, reporting, recordkeeping oversight, and permitting of ESE region environmental regulations for Enviva’s current and future wood pellet and port facilities. The Environmental Manager will work closely with the EHS Managers at each of the facilities to execute the day-to-day management of the environmental regulations and report directly to the Environmental Affairs Director.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure facility/construction site compliance with all federal, state and local environmental requirements for air, stormwater, wastewater, hazardous waste, universal waste, and etc.
  • Manage environmental incident investigations, determine compliance, then escalate findings to management with recommendations for resolution.
  • Assist in the management of onsite emission stack testing. · Develop, deploy and monitor the environmental compliance matrix, records, reporting, and submittals.
  • Develop, upload, track, and report progress of environmental training for employees.
  • Assist in the documentation, auditing, and administration of environmental records for compliance.
  • Administer and report on environmental assessment, compliance inspection and audit processes. 
  • Track and verify completion of site environmental compliance deficiencies.
  • Manage permitting responsibilities with generating applications for all permits and assure permit fees are paid before deadlines.
  • Work with third party vendors in relation to onsite visits and environmental audits with managing purchase orders.
  • Implement and support company’s operational excellence management system (OEMS).

Qualifications 

 

  • BA/BS in Environmental Engineering or similar degree and a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Working knowledge of Federal and State environmental regulations, with the focus on the Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act. Knowledge of RCRA, SARA/CERCLA, TSCA, EPCRA and Industrial User wastewater is preferred.
  • Prior environmental compliance work experience in SC and GA.
  • Experience with air emissions including air permitting and stack testing; hands-on experience with air emissions control equipment and testing is strongly preferred
  • Understanding of implementation of ISO 14001 or other Management Systems. · High degree of professionalism and integrity.
  • Strong team player with ability to exercise authority and request /seek accountability from cross-functional team members. · Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects and shifting priorities.
  • Desire to learn quickly and be challenged to take on higher levels of responsibility.
  • Willingness to take initiative and proactive solution-oriented approach to tasks.
  • Desire to receive constructive feedback and grow professionally.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Sharepoint.
  • Proficiency with database, project management, and reporting processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working with operational platforms such as PowerBi, Drone Viewing, and DataParc historian.

 

Travel requirements

  • Willingness to travel up to 75%, primarily in the Southeast of the U.S. 

Working Conditions

  • Inside and outside work throughout the year as needed.
  • Must be able to work in outdoor environments and occasionally in temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees 
  • Willing and able to work in a hot, humid, cold and noisy industrial environment 
  • Willing and able to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, to include wearing safety equipment.

Physical Requirements

  • Capable of walking up a minimum 3 flights of stairs and one mile walk which assist of doing environmental audits.
  • Willing and able to work around moving equipment and machinery
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
