About the Role
About the role
The Envoy platform is a complex environment that relies heavily on a robust data platform. At its core, Postgres DB is the foundation of the Envoy platform. This is a hybrid Data engineer and DBA role, where strong postgresql DBA foundations are essential, but modern cloud-native experience is also crucial. Successful candidates will also be familiar with data pipelines, tooling like Kafka and be comfortable working alongside fellow software engineers to scale our data platform across message buses, RDBMS and NoSQL storage. Will fill a key role on our team to help us scale the platform as our customer base continues to grow. This person is responsible for configuring, administering, and maintaining PostgreSQL Databases, Redshift clusters, Opensearch/Elasticsearch clusters, and data pipelines. They will work with the Software Engineering leaders to architect the platform for scale, and review teams’ designs for Data scalability and resilience. Other responsibilities include database upgrades, patching, security, troubleshooting and issue resolution, backup procedures, and performance tuning.
This role will provide support and direction to developers and other support personnel as needed. Daily responsibilities include delivering the optics to the broader team to enable them to monitor the DB health and their team’s impact on the DB, providing acceptable system performance, and assuring data is protected and recoverable as required.
This onsite position requires 4 days a week (Monday-Thursday) in our San Francisco HQ office.
You will
- Work with application engineers and architects to shape our ongoing data management strategy across relational and non-relational storage platforms.
- Perform Database maintenance - upgrades, patching, security, troubleshooting, issue resolution, backup procedures, and performance tuning.
- Consult with software engineers and advise on optimizing query performance.
- Plan and perform the database upgrades.
- Work closely with the application team to understand changes planned, perform an impact analysis, and provide feedback.
You have
- Required Skills: 5+ years’ hands-on database administration experience, with a minimum of 3 years in PostgreSQL.
- Python scripting experience or Unix shell scripting experience.
- Excellent understanding of PostgreSQL database concepts and structures
- Familiarity with running PostgreSQL databases on modern cloud platforms.
- Opensearch/Elasticsearch clusters.
- Clustering architectures.
- Exposure to AWS RDS/AWS and Aurora is a plus.

Compensation description
Envoy's compensation package includes a market-competitive salary, equity for all full-time roles, and excellent benefits. If you are located in the San Francisco Bay Area, our expected cash compensation for this role is $250K- $265K (Annually). Final offers may vary within the range provided based on experience, expertise, and other factors.
