About the role
The Analytics team empowers Envoy customers with the insights they need to optimize the use of their spaces. We build data visualizations, dashboards, and export tools that help companies understand visitor patterns, occupancy trends, and workplace behavior. From pre-built reports to customizable dashboards, our goal is to make workplace data both actionable and accessible.
We work closely with design and product to build intuitive, reliable analytics experiences backed by scalable infrastructure. We are looking for exceptional engineers who take ownership, enjoy working across data and UX, and are excited by the challenge of transforming complex data into actionable insights for thousands of workplaces worldwide. This on-site position requires 4 days a week (Monday through Thursday) in our San Francisco HQ office.
You Will
- Design and implement enterprise-grade services and features (Frontend - 25%, Backend - 75%)
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ship new features
- Ensure the quality, security, availability, and performance of services
- Respond to incidents, identify and resolve bottlenecks, and fix bugs
- Drive engineering projects from inception to completion with a sense of urgency
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to less-experienced engineers
- Help guide decision-making on technical direction for the team
- Deliver excellent software through comprehensive peer reviews, CI, and automated testing
- Serve as the technical expert/lead on team projects

We believe that strong engineers can learn any stack, but we currently use:
- Kotlin and Ruby on Rails for our backend application layer
- Ember, React, and TypeScript for our front-end
- Postgres for our database
- AWS for our infrastructure

You Have
- 5+ years of full-stack software engineering experience
- BS / MS in Computer Science or a related technical field
- Extensive experience developing and consuming APIs in Kotlin or Java (REST, JSON/HTTP, GraphQL
- Experience with data engineering topics (designing data pipelines, building solutions for data ingestion, storage, processing, analytics, and visualization).
- Experience with relational databases (i.e. Postgres) and Redshift data lake, and the ability to design effective data models
- Strong understanding of software engineering principles
- Well-versed in code versioning tools (e.g. Git/GitHub) and familiarity with CI and CD
- An agile mindset - solid experience building software using an agile process
- Excellent problem-solving skills
Bonus Points
- Strong proficiency in both JavaScript and TypeScript
- Track record of building enterprise-grade software (building systems that are highly secure, scalable, available, and performant)
- Experience working in fast-paced startup environments
- Strong communication skills - the ability to articulate your ideas clearly

Compensation description
Envoy's compensation package includes a market-competitive salary, equity for all full-time roles, and excellent benefits. If you are located in the San Francisco/ Bay Area, our expected cash compensation for this role is $190K- $205K (Annually). Final offers may vary within the provided range, depending on experience, expertise, and other factors.
