Director of Human Resources

Lafayette, CO

Director of Human Resources

Who we are:

EOI Space is developing and deploying a constellation of satellites in Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) to provide ultra-high-resolution Earth imagery. We aim to deliver timely and actionable data for commercial and defense applications.

We are on our way to achieving many industry firsts. This demands an ambitious team that revels in leaning into challenges, getting hands on, and working together.

What you will do:

EOI Space is seeking a strong, experienced, and mission-focused Director of Human Resources to build and lead the company’s human resources function during a critical stage of growth. This leader will help establish the people systems, standards, and processes necessary for a high-performing startup operating in a complex and demanding industry. The Director of Human Resources will work directly with the CEO and senior leadership team to ensure EOI Space has the structure, discipline, and talent practices required to support growth, operational excellence, and long-term success.

This role is designed for a hands-on HR leader who can build, improve, and scale foundational human resources capabilities in a fast-paced startup environment. The ideal candidate will bring sound judgment, discretion, urgency, and the ability to move seamlessly between strategy and execution. This is not a maintenance role. It is a build-and-lead role for someone who can create strong HR infrastructure, support leaders well, and ensure the company is positioned to recruit, retain, and develop exceptional talent.

The Director of Human Resources must be a visible and trusted presence within the organization. Because collaboration, leadership partnership, employee support, and culture-building matter deeply at this stage of the company, this position is required to work in person at EOI Space’s corporate headquarters in Lafayette, Colorado, a minimum of four days each week.

The Director of Human Resources will lead the development and execution of the core HR functions of the company. This includes talent acquisition, onboarding, compensation, benefits, compliance, performance management, employee relations, organizational development, HR systems, and culture. The successful candidate will bring best practices across the major domains of human resources while adapting them to the practical needs of a startup space company.

Responsibilities:

  • HR Strategy and Organizational Alignment: Develop and lead an HR strategy aligned with EOI Space’s business priorities, growth plans, and mission. Partner with the CEO and executive leadership to ensure people strategy supports company performance and readiness.
  • Workforce Planning: Assess organizational structure, talent gaps, and future staffing needs. Help leadership define priorities for hiring, role clarity, and team design to support execution.
  • Talent Acquisition and Recruiting: Design and manage a recruiting process that improves candidate quality, hiring discipline, speed, and consistency. Ensure job descriptions, interview processes, and selection practices reflect best standards.
  • Onboarding and Employee Integration: Build and maintain a strong onboarding program that helps new employees integrate quickly, understand expectations, and become productive members of the team.
  • Compensation and Job Architecture: Partner with leadership to create practical and competitive approaches to compensation, leveling, titles, and offer development that support both fairness and startup realities.
  • Benefits Administration: Oversee employee benefits programs and ensure employees receive clear communication, responsive support, and well-managed administration.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure company adherence to applicable employment laws, HR policies, documentation standards, and sound people practices. Identify potential areas of risk and recommend corrective action where needed.
  • Policies and Employee Handbook: Develop, review, and maintain HR policies, handbook materials, and employee-facing procedures that provide clarity and consistency across the company.
  • Performance Management: Create and manage a practical performance management framework that supports accountability, feedback, role clarity, and leadership effectiveness.
  • Employee Relations: Serve as a trusted resource for employees and managers. Support issue resolution, coaching, conflict management, and consistent handling of employee matters.
  • Learning and Leadership Development: Help identify and implement training and development priorities, especially for managers, emerging leaders, and critical roles.
  • HR Systems and Records Management: Assess and improve HR systems, employee data management, records practices, and workflows to support a growing organization.
  • Culture and Employee Experience: Partner with leadership to strengthen organizational culture, reinforce expected behaviors, and improve employee experience, communication, and retention.
  • Succession and Talent Management: Help leadership identify key talent, reduce key-person risk, and build stronger continuity planning for critical roles.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Leadership, or a related field required. Advanced degree or relevant HR certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 to 12 years of progressively responsible HR experience, including senior-level leadership responsibility.
  • Experience in a startup, high-growth, engineering-driven, aerospace, defense, manufacturing, or similarly complex environment strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to build HR functions, systems, and processes rather than simply manage established ones.
  • Strong knowledge of core HR disciplines, including recruiting, compliance, compensation, employee relations, performance management, and organizational development.
  • Strong executive presence, communication skills, judgment, and ability to build trust across all levels of an organization.
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion, maturity, and professionalism.

Compensation:

The salary range for this role is $130,000-$180,000 per year, depending on previous experience. Pay ranges are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual pay will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: interviews and an assessment of several factors that are unique to each candidate, job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, abilities of the candidate, and internal equity.

Work Location:

This role is based in Lafayette, CO.

Benefits:

The health and safety of our employees and their families come first.  In addition to competitive salary and equity, we offer medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance coverage, unlimited paid time off, 12 paid holidays, parental leave, and 401K.  The Company reserves the right to modify or change these benefits at any time.

OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
