We are on our way to achieving many industry firsts. This demands an ambitious team that revels in leaning into challenges, getting hands on, and working together. Does this sound like you? EOI Space is looking for a Lead Technician to lead our technician team through spacecraft assembly, integration, and test. Reporting to the Director of System Engineering & Integration, this role combines hands-on build work with day-to-day leadership of the technician team across mechanical and electrical integration, harness fabrication, and final spacecraft assembly.

The ideal candidate is a highly skilled technician who has grown into leadership, thrives in a fast-paced environment where processes are still evolving, and sets the standard for safety, quality, and workmanship on the floor.

What you will do:

The Lead Technician oversees the technician team and the day-to-day execution of spacecraft assembly, integration, and test. This is a working leadership role. The Lead performs hands-on assembly alongside the team while providing direction, training, and coordination, and serves as the primary escalation point for complex technical issues.

The Lead ensures the team works safely, to quality standards, and in line with engineering specifications and ATLO procedures, and works closely with the engineering teams to meet program goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a high-performing technician team by recommending appropriate training, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, setting clear expectations and performance goals, and monitoring progress.
  • Ensure effective use of technician resources by coordinating work schedules, assignments, and workload distribution across the team.
  • Identify development and training opportunities by conducting regular performance evaluations and providing feedback.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex technical issues, providing guidance and support to technicians in problem-solving and troubleshooting.
  • Build and lead the technician staff, including participation in hiring and onboarding of new technicians.
  • Lead the assembly of the spacecraft by performing hands-on work, guiding the work of the technician team, and ensuring the team has the resources it needs to be successful.
  • Execute and oversee spacecraft manufacturing and integration, including mechanical and electronic subsystems, harness fabrication, and final spacecraft assembly.
  • Integrate and deploy GSE hardware as needed to facilitate the build of the spacecraft and its associated components and subsystems.
  • Oversee HIL and Flatsat configurations, ensuring they are properly maintained and controlled.
  • Work from engineering drawings and technical documents and ensure technicians do the same.
  • Develop process plans and standard operating procedures through regular collaboration with the engineering and production teams.
  • Identify and reduce process inefficiencies by developing strategies that improve technical workflows and increase efficiency.
  • Raise awareness of any issues with build documentation or hardware and drive them to resolution with engineering.
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards, timelines, and engineering specifications through proper training and preparation for all technician activities.
  • Follow and enforce ATLO procedures, documentation standards, and data-handling policies across the organization.
  • Maintain compliance with aerospace industry standards and internal quality requirements.
  • Ensure technicians adhere to all relevant safety regulations and guidelines by implementing regular safety training sessions and monitoring safety practices.
  • Responsible for lab and cleanroom organization and cleanliness.
  • Protect sensitive data, hardware, and technology by implementing and enforcing security and export-control protocols consistent with EOI Space’s ITAR and EAR obligations, including controlled access, marking, and storage of export-controlled items.

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of relevant experience with time focused on spacecraft or satellite applications.
  • Proven experience in a technical leadership role, as a Technician Lead or similar position.
  • Strong hands-on background in aerospace, electrical, mechanical, and structural assembly, including harness fabrication and spacecraft integration.
  • Familiarity with a variety of test equipment, including oscilloscopes, DMMs, HiPot, and torque tools.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on finding practical solutions.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Knowledge of industry regulations, compliance standards, and best practices.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety protocols and to ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Ability to regularly lift and move materials up to 50 lbs and safely use shop tools and equipment.
  • Must be a U.S. person (U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident).
  • Preferred: certifications in industry workmanship standards, such as IPC (J-STD-001, IPC-A-610) or NASA (NASA-STD-8739) standards.
  • Preferred: experience training or certifying technicians to workmanship standards.
  • Preferred: formal supervisory or lead training, or a technical certificate or associate’s degree in a related field.
  • An on-site test of skills may be part of the interview process.

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
