Cleared Onsite Data Engineer (5112)

SMX is seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to support the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Business Strategy and Analytics Section (BSAS) Human Resources Reports program. This role will design and implement enterprise data architecture solutions that support advanced analytics, reporting, and data science initiatives across the FBI’s human capital ecosystem. The Senior Data Architect will work closely with data engineers, developers, and business stakeholders to integrate data from multiple enterprise systems, develop scalable data models, and enable high-impact analytics solutions that inform workforce planning, hiring, and mission support decisions. This position will support the modernization and continued development of the FBI’s enterprise HR analytics platform operating in AWS cloud environments. The ideal candidate will have deep experience with enterprise data architecture, cloud-based data warehousing, ETL orchestration, and business intelligence platforms. This individual will play a key role in designing scalable data solutions, enabling predictive analytics capabilities, and ensuring secure, efficient access to enterprise data across classified and unclassified environments. This is a full-time position requiring on-site work four days a week at a client’s office in Washington, D.C. An active Top-Secret clearance is mandatory.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Design and maintain enterprise logical and physical data models supporting large-scale analytics platforms.
  • Architect and optimize data warehouse solutions using AWS cloud technologies such as Redshift and related services.
  • Design and implement scalable data pipelines using SQL, Python, Apache Airflow, and related orchestration tools.
  • Integrate data from multiple enterprise systems including HR, training, financial, and operational platforms.
  • Define and enforce enterprise data governance, security, and data management standards.
  • Collaborate with development and analytics teams to translate business requirements into technical data architecture solutions.
  • Support enterprise analytics platforms including Business Intelligence tools such as MicroStrategy and ThoughtSpot.
  • Ensure data architectures support advanced analytics and predictive modeling initiatives.
  • Develop strategies to improve data quality, performance, scalability, and accessibility across the data ecosystem.
  • Support system integration activities and maintain interfaces across multiple FBI enterprise systems.
  • Assist with architecture design supporting both classified and unclassified environments.
  • Participate in Agile development activities including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and technical design discussions.
  • Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance to data engineers, developers, and analysts.
  • Assist with documentation including system design documents, data models, and architecture diagrams.

Required Skills:  

  • 10+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or enterprise data platform design.
  • Extensive experience with data warehousing architectures and enterprise data modeling.
  • Strong experience with SQL and large-scale relational databases.
  • Experience with AWS cloud services, particularly Redshift or similar data warehouse technologies.
  • Experience designing and managing ETL / ELT pipelines using tools such as Apache Airflow, AWS Glue, or similar technologies.
  • Experience integrating data across multiple enterprise systems and APIs.
  • Experience with Business Intelligence platforms such as MicroStrategy, ThoughtSpot, Tableau, or Power BI.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, security, and access control models.
  • Experience working in Agile development environments.
  • Ability to translate complex business requirements into scalable technical data solutions.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Active Top Secret clearance.

Desired Skills/Experience:

  • Experience supporting federal government enterprise analytics platforms.
  • Experience working with HR or human capital data systems such as PeopleSoft or similar platforms.
  • Experience working with sensitive or regulated datasets (PII, security clearance data, etc.).
  • Experience supporting predictive analytics or data science initiatives.
  • Experience with data architecture supporting enterprise BI ecosystems.
  • Experience supporting systems operating in multiple security enclaves.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.

   **This position requires four days a week on site at customer location in Washington DC. **

The proposed salary for this position is:

$95,600 - $160,700 USD
