Director of Platform Engineering
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Director of Engineering, Platform to lead and scale our core platform functions. This critical leadership role will lead all aspects of the DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Platform Engineering, QA Automation, and QA Performance teams.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong balance of technical depth, strategic thinking, and people leadership, with a passion for building scalable and reliable infrastructure that supports rapid product development and long-term growth.
As the Director of Platform Engineering, you will work closely with senior engineering and product leaders to define the vision and roadmap for platform services, while ensuring operational excellence, security, and performance across all environments.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy:
- Lead, mentor, and grow high-performing teams across DevOps, SRE, Platform Engineering, QA Automation, and QA Performance.
- Define and implement the strategic vision for platform engineering, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Develop a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Help to deliver and set the company up for success with our FinOps strategy.
Technical Excellence:
- Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of scalable, secure, and reliable platform solutions.
- Drive adoption of best practices in automation, infrastructure-as-code (IAC), CI/CD, and cloud-native technologies.
- Guide the development of core engineering packages and reusable components for internal engineering teams.
Cloud & DevOps:
- Lead cloud strategy and operations across Azure, AWS, and GCP.
- Lead migration from other cloud providers to Azure.
- Optimize cloud costs and ensure robust monitoring, telemetry, and alerting of all cloud systems.
- Champion automation, Kubernetes orchestration, and infrastructure management using Terraform, Bicep, and related tools.
Quality & Reliability:
- Ensure high standards of quality and performance through robust QA automation and performance testing strategies.
- Implement and monitor SLOs/SLAs, incident response, and reliability engineering practices.
Stakeholder Management:
- Collaborate with product, security, and other engineering teams to deliver reliable and scalable solutions.
- Communicate platform strategy, progress, and outcomes to senior leadership and stakeholders.
Requirements
- Proven experience (8+ years) in engineering leadership roles, with direct responsibility for DevOps, SRE, Platform Engineering, and QA teams.
- Deep expertise in cloud platforms (Azure, AWS or GCP), automation, IAC (Terraform, Bicep), Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Track record of building and scaling platform engineering functions and developing core engineering packages.
- Strong background in cloud cost optimization, monitoring, telemetry, and system observability.
- Experience with QA automation and performance testing in complex, distributed environments.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Fluent in English.
Nice to Have
- Hands-on experience with advanced cloud-native technologies and modern monitoring stacks (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog).
- Experience in regulated or high-availability environments.
- Previous experience working in multinational or distributed teams.
