Electrical Systems Engineer

About Etched

Etched is building AI chips that are hard-coded for individual model architectures. Our first product (Sohu) only supports transformers, but has an order of magnitude more throughput and lower latency than a B200. With Etched ASICs, you can build products that would be impossible with GPUs, like real-time video generation models and extremely deep chain-of-thought reasoning.

Electrical Systems Engineer

We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Electrical Systems Engineer to join our team and play a critical role in developing advanced PCB designs for high-performance data center products. As a Senior Electrical Systems Engineer at Etched, you will be responsible for designing and optimizing PCBs for high-power data center applications. Your expertise will focus on high-performance processor ICs, complex HDI PCBs, high-speed 100G+ signaling, and advanced power supply solutions, including 48V and multi-phase designs. You will also leverage your experience with Linux-OS, server systems engineering, and debug to ensure our products meet the rigorous demands of modern data centers.

Representative Projects

  • Lead the design and development of PCBs for high-performance data center products, including complex High-Density Interconnect (HDI) boards and high-power systems. Ensure that PCB designs meet the stringent requirements of modern data center applications
  • Design and integrate high-performance processor ICs, focusing on optimizing signal integrity and power management in demanding data center environments. Achieve seamless integration with overall system architecture
  • Develop and optimize high-speed signaling strategies, including 100G+ signaling, impedance control, trace routing, and signal integrity analysis. Ensure reliable and efficient data transmission in high-performance data center products
  • Design and optimize power supply systems, including 48V and multi-phase designs, to deliver stable and efficient power for high-performance data center applications. Address challenges related to power delivery and efficiency
  • Work closely with mechanical engineers, systems engineers, and other team members to ensure the seamless integration of PCB designs with the overall system architecture. Facilitate effective communication and collaboration across disciplines
  • Manage the testing and validation processes for PCB designs, addressing any issues related to performance, reliability, or manufacturing. Ensure that all designs meet rigorous quality and reliability standards
  • Create and maintain detailed design documentation, including schematics, layout files, and design specifications. Ensure that documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and accessible for future reference
  • Apply experience with Linux-OS to support debugging and integration efforts, ensuring compatibility and optimal performance with server systems. Utilize knowledge of server systems engineering to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to PCB design, power management, BMC, and overall system integration

You might be a good fit if you have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in PCB design for data center products, with a strong focus on high-performance processor ICs, complex HDI PCBs, high-speed signaling, and power supply design
  • Design and integrate high-performance processor ICs, optimizing signal integrity and power management.
  • Develop and refine 100G+ signaling strategies, including impedance control and signal integrity analysis.
  • Design and optimize 48V and multi-phase power supplies for stable, efficient data center applications.
  • Collaborate with engineers to seamlessly integrate PCB designs with system architecture
  • Oversee testing and validation, addressing performance and reliability issues.
  • Support debugging and integration using Linux-OS and server systems engineering expertise

We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification.

How we’re different:

Etched believes in the Bitter Lesson. We think most of the progress in the AI field has come from using more FLOPs to train and run models, and the best way to get more FLOPs is to build model-specific hardware. Larger and larger training runs encourage companies to consolidate around fewer model architectures, which creates a market for single-model ASICs.

We are a fully in-person team in Cupertino, and greatly value engineering skills. We do not have boundaries between engineering and research, and we expect all of our technical staff to contribute to both as needed.

Benefits:

  • Full medical, dental, and vision packages, with 100% of premium covered, 90% for dependents
  • Housing subsidy of $2,000/month for those living within walking distance of the office
  • Daily lunch and dinner in our office
  • Relocation support for those moving to Cupertino

Race & Ethnicity Definitions

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

A "recently separated veteran" means any veteran during the three-year period beginning on the date of such veteran's discharge or release from active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service.

An "active duty wartime or campaign badge veteran" means a veteran who served on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service during a war, or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized under the laws administered by the Department of Defense.

An "Armed forces service medal veteran" means a veteran who, while serving on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service, participated in a United States military operation for which an Armed Forces service medal was awarded pursuant to Executive Order 12985.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.

How do you know if you have a disability?
