Industrial Field Technician

ETCH is a startup commercializing a radically new and efficient decarbonization technology for the simultaneous greenhouse gas-free production of hydrogen and solid carbon from natural gas.  

The Industrial Field Technician position at ETCH, INC will operate and maintain systems, equipment and implement procedures used in the ETCH Process.  Primary duties are maintenance, testing, and monitoring of ETCH’s pilot reactor, assistance in assembly and disassembly of the reactor, maintenance of the reactor site, and collecting and analyzing performance data of the pilot reactor.

Other duties include:

  • Learn all aspects of the ETCH process with the goal of being able to troubleshoot any deviations that may result in reliability issues or deficiencies.
  • Learn and operate computer controls system of the reactor.
  • Read and interpret P&IDs, equipment manuals, and safety procedures.
  • Perform inspections of equipment and daily preventative maintenance tasks as required.
  • Safely troubleshoot, maintain, and assist in the repair mechanical and electrical systems including valves, piping, pumps, motors, etc.
  • Perform lock-out tag-out correctly, and safely permit maintenance work including overseeing of contractors as necessary.
  • Providing process improvement feedback and diagnosis of process bottlenecks
  • Establishing safe systems and procedures for individuals and groups working with potentially dangerous and combustible chemicals, particularly but not limited to natural gas, hydrogen, hydrogen chloride, carbon powders and metal salts
  • Evaluating processes and equipment to ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations
  • Upkeep of regular usage logs and miscellaneous record keeping
  • Flexible work schedule including the occasional third shift

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with industrial chemical plants
  • Minimum 2 years experience working on mechanical systems and field repair
  • Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems
  • Experience with tools, machinery, equipment fabrication; experience with chemical processing preferred
  • Excellent communication skills and working knowledge of computer programs
  • Must be able to work safely and follow safety protocols in industrial environments (temperature, humidity, noise, confined spaces, etc.).

An ability to work independently as well as in a team environment toward timely execution of goals is required. This position will also require working outdoors in various weather conditions.
