Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Technical Writer to support documentation, reporting, and communication efforts for the Department of Transportation (DOT) High Value Asset (HVA) Program Management Office (PMO). This position plays a key role in ensuring that all deliverables, reports, and communications meet DOT standards and are appropriate for both technical and non-technical audiences.
The Technical Writer will be responsible for developing and managing high-quality documentation, including executive summaries, technical findings, policies, risk assessments, and operational guidance. The role also requires maintaining a central repository for all documentation and preparing quarterly reports to track finalized deliverables.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create, edit, and format reports, communications, policies, and guidance documents that meet DOT style guidelines.
- Translate complex technical content into clear, concise documents for executive and technical audiences.
- Draft executive summaries, technical explanations, risk assessments, and mitigation recommendations based on cybersecurity findings and assessments.
- Support routine communications with internal and external HVA stakeholders.
- Assist in the creation of standardized templates, SOPs, presentations, and spreadsheets to support training and operational tracking for HVA PMO.
- Maintain and organize a central documentation repository that includes finalized reports, guidance, SOPs, and other artifacts.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts, project managers, and stakeholders to gather information and ensure accuracy and clarity in all written materials.
- Produce a quarterly report summarizing reviewed and finalized documentation during the reporting period.
- Review and revise existing documentation to ensure consistency, accuracy, and alignment with current policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications:
- Proven experience (3+ years) as a Technical Writer in a federal, IT, cybersecurity, or compliance environment.
- Strong understanding of how to tailor content for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience creating various document types, such as: Executive summaries, Risk assessments, Technical findings, Policy and guidance documentation and SOPs and training materials.
- Excellent writing, editing, grammar, and organizational skills.
- Ability to synthesize complex information and present it in a logical, user-friendly format.
- Experience working with document management systems and centralized repositories.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and collaboration tools (e.g., SharePoint, Teams).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with DOT writing standards or other federal style guides.
- Experience supporting cybersecurity programs, RMF, or High Value Asset initiatives.
- Basic understanding of cybersecurity, risk management, or information assurance principles.
- Experience working in federal environments or with federal compliance documentation.
