Position Summary:
The Senior SQL DBA is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) responsible for supporting, developing, and maintaining SQL server environments across the GPO enterprise. The incumbent ensures the functional integrity, uptime, performance, security, and compliance of all SQL-based back-end systems, including SQL Clusters and standalone instances.
Key Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot daily SQL Server and SQL Cluster issues, including system setups, error triage, and configuration problems.
- Provide expert-level support for the SQL database environment, including Maria DB, MySQL, and MS Access environments.
- Respond to Requests for Change (RFCs) and user support requests for database maintenance and enhancements.
- Assist business units/users in designing, building, and deploying SQL databases.
- Implement, monitor, and optimize backup/recovery procedures and disaster recovery (DR) tests.
- Plan, perform, and validate database upgrades, patches, and migrations.
- Diagnose, remediate, and document database and application-related performance bottlenecks.
- Adhere to security best practices and compliance requirements for Federal databases.
- Prepare and submit weekly support activity reports detailing progress, incidents managed, and recommendations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- At least 8 years of professional experience in SQL Server administration, including experience with clustering technologies.
- Demonstrated proficiency with MS SQL, SQL Server Cluster environments, MariaDB, MySQL, and MS Access.
- Experience in troubleshooting, performance tuning, and implementing database security controls.
- Effective communicator, able to work independently and with varied business and IT customers.
- Availability for occasional after-hours support for scheduled patching or emergency support.
Location: Work may be performed remotely, with the option to work onsite at GPO’s Central Office in Washington, DC.
