About the role
The Manager of Underwriting Assistance will lead the UW support team to ensure seamless end-to-end case management. This role is responsible for bridging the gap between initial application and the final underwriter decision by managing evidence ordering, requirement follow-ups, and vendor coordination.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage a team of UW Assistants/Associates to ensure daily productivity targets are met. Workflow Management: Oversee case allocation to prevent bottlenecks in the "pre-underwriting" stage.WIP Management
- Accuracy Tracking: Ensure initial evidence ordering (PIA/RUW) triggers correctly and on time
- Quality Control: Audit the team's requirement-raising process to ensure "First Time Right" (FTR) principles, minimizing unnecessary multiple evidence triggers
- Vendor Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for third-party vendors to resolve delays in evidence uploads. Data Analytics: Maintain and present daily/weekly dashboards on assistance team productivity and evidence costs
- Strategy Implementation: Work closely with the Underwriting management to implement shifts in prioritization
- Process Improvement: Identify automation opportunities in the Underwriting process to reduce manual effort
- Handling sales queries timely and effectively within the defined SLA: Act as the primary escalation point for the Sales and Distribution channels, ensuring all Underwriting process-related queries regarding pending requirements or case status are resolved within the defined SLA. Move beyond just "sharing status" to actively providing solutions that move cases toward a final decision
Qualifications and Skills:
- Experience: At least 7-10 years in Life Insurance Operations, with at least 3–5 years in a managerial/supervisory role within Underwriting Support or policy servicing/customer service in the insurance sector
- Education: Graduate/Postgraduate in any stream (LOMA/III certifications are an advantage)
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Insurance Core Systems (PAS)
- Advanced Excel skills for productivity tracking
- Familiarity with OCR/Digital document workflows
- Soft Skills: Strong follow-through and "ownership" mindset
- Ability to manage high-pressure, high-volume environments
- Excellent communication skills for cross-functional coordination
