Ethos is redefining how life insurance is bought, sold, and underwritten.
About the role
We are seeking a data-obsessed, US-based Senior Growth & Communications Manager to own the post-lead, post-contact user journey for Ethos's Annuities business — and, over time, other new product lines — focused on re-engagement, retention, and maximizing long-term customer value (LTV).
Annuities is a higher-stakes B2C product than our core offerings: clients are committing $250K-$300K+, the sales cycle typically requires multiple agent conversations, and trust — not product fit — is the biggest driver of drop-off. This is a sales-led, relationship-driven business, not a self-serve one. Your job isn't to automate the agent out of the journey; it's to design what gets said, to whom, and when, so that trust keeps building in the gaps between agent conversations, and so agents walk into every call armed with the right content instead of starting cold.
You will operate as the re-engagement and messaging strategist on a shared OKR with the Lead PM, Annuities, and in close working partnership with Sales leadership and agents — you need to know what's actually landing on live calls, not just what performs in an inbox.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Own the Messaging & Re-Engagement Strategy. Design the narrative and cadence that carries a prospect from first contact through a funded policy across a multi-call, high-consideration sales journey.
- Arm Agents with Content That Converts. This is the highest-leverage lever in a sales-led business. Build fast, ready-to-personalize follow-up content — the right three articles, dashboards, or talking points an agent can send within minutes of hanging up — and make the system smarter over time so it's not the same packet for every client.
- Design the Nurture Cadence Between Touchpoints. Build the triggered messaging (email, SMS, voice/conversational AI) that keeps a prospect warm between calls without giving away the agent's narrative — for example, a deliberately vague teaser ahead of the proposal call, or a drip of trust-building, non-salesy content between proposal and application.
- Build Trust Signals Across the Funnel. Partner with Marketing and Product on the things that actually move a $250K decision: agent profiles and credibility, carrier proof points, reviews — the connective tissue between 'agent as internet voice' and 'agent I trust with my retirement.'
- Use Self-Serve Tools to Support the Agent, Not Replace Them. Where useful, build lightweight scenario tools or calculators the agent can walk a client through together or point to after a call — not a self-serve path designed to route around the agent.
- Own the Data Behind Trust and Drop-Off. Be the expert on Annuities cohorts and funnel curves. Use SQL to find exactly where trust breaks down between calls, not just where a campaign underperforms — then turn that into a concrete hypothesis and test it.
- Run Experiments End to End. Test messaging, cadence, and channel mix; report on statistical significance; roll out what wins. Vibe-code your own landing pages or lightweight experiences where that's the fastest way to test an idea.
- Cross-Functional Ownership. Operate on a shared OKR with the Annuities PM and in a real working relationship with Sales leadership — decisions get made, ownership is felt, and campaigns don't stall because nobody knows who's driving.
- New Products Scope. Primary focus (~80%) is Annuities. Over time, expect to take on re-engagement and messaging work for additional new product lines as they spin up.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Copywriting and Messaging Strategy. You can write subject lines that get opened and body copy that drives action — and you know how to build trust and clarity into a high-consideration financial decision, not just optimize for clicks.
- 6+ Years of Experience. Senior-level track record in Lifecycle / Re-Engagement, Growth Marketing, or CRM at a B2C Tech, FinTech, Insurtech, or Marketplace company. Higher-consideration / higher-AOV product experience strongly preferred.
- Comfortable Partnering Directly with a Sales Org. You want to know what's actually said on a live call, and you can translate that into content and tools that make agents more effective — not tools built in isolation from what's happening in the field.
- Multi-Channel Mindset. You think natively across email, SMS, voice / conversational AI, and agent-delivered follow-up. You do not believe email is the center of the universe.
- Analytical Mindset & SQL. Fluent in cohort retention, statistical significance, and LTV. SQL is required — you write your own queries to find where trust and momentum break down in the funnel.
- Technical CRM Proficiency. Hands-on expertise with enterprise marketing automation tools (e.g., Braze, Iterable, Customer.io, HubSpot, or similar).
- PM Collaboration. You've worked on a shared goal / OKR with a PM before and have a strong sense of when to lead, when to follow, and how to drive decisions across a cross-functional team.
