We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer with deep expertise in Python to join our engineering team. You will own and deliver backend services that drive mission-critical features and data platforms. This position requires end-to-end responsibility, technical leadership, and strong collaboration across disciplines. You will serve as a subject matter expert on one major component or service, helping shape our software strategy and customer experience.

YOU WILL

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and integrate scalable backend services and features
  • Drive technical designs aligned with team architecture, refactor code, and build shared libraries
  • Use feature flags and experimentation frameworks to test and safely roll out new features
  • Investigate and resolve database and data pipeline issues by querying sources and collaborating cross-functionally
  • Participate actively in code reviews, backlog estimation, and story breakdown to uphold high coding standards
  • Document system designs, feature decisions, onboarding guides, and other critical technical knowledge
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to process improvement and team-wide software quality
  • Tackle ambiguous projects and resolve architectural gaps in advance of development
  • Partner with Staff/Principal engineers to integrate improvements and maintain operational excellence
  • Participate quarterly in hiring or recruiting activities at or below your level

THE SKILL SET

  • 5+ years professional experience building backend systems with Python
  • Strong knowledge of RESTful APIs, microservices design, and event-driven architecture
  • Analytical skills to troubleshoot and debug complex data-centric issues
  • Experience with CI/CD, version control (Git), automated testing, and DevOps concepts
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical decisions, bridging technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Track record of high-quality documentation and maintainability
  • Experience mentoring peers and onboarding new team members
  • Proficient at objective, constructive code review and team collaboration
  • Proven ability to drive ongoing process improvements and raise software quality standards

BONUS POINTS

  • Production experience with OpenSearch, Snowflake, Kafka, DAG orchestration tools, and AWS Lambda functions
  • Knowledge of ML algorithms, integration of ML models, or data science workflows
  • Basic understanding of frontend technologies (especially React); ability to collaborate with frontend teams
  • Experience in regulated or high-scale SaaS environments
  • Familiarity with feature flag tools, experimentation platforms, or A/B testing best practices
  • Awareness of compliance, privacy, and cloud security best practices for backend systems

PAY TRANSPARENCY

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Eventbrite, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is listed below. You may also be eligible to participate in Eventbrite’s incentive program(s) (such as equity, annual incentive bonus and commission plans), subject to the applicable rules and restrictions.
