Are you an experienced Veterinary Technician with a passion for oncology? Friendship Hospital for Animals (FHA) is looking for a dedicated and skilled technician to join our Oncology team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a highly collaborative hospital committed to exceptional patient care.
About the Role:
As a Veterinary Oncology Technician, you'll work closely with our oncology team to support cancer patients through diagnostics, treatment, and client education. This role is best suited for someone who is self-sufficient, organized, compassionate, and comfortable handling chemotherapy agents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform clinical procedures including blood draws, IV catheter placement, blood pressure monitoring, and biopsy preparation
- Administer and monitor sedation for procedures
- Safely handle and administer chemotherapeutic drugs
- Ensure accurate calculation, preparation, and administration of chemotherapy and other medications
- Manage and submit laboratory samples properly
- Maintain detailed medical records and assist in client communication
- Provide clear, empathetic education and support to pet owners
- Skillfully handle difficult or fractious patients using low-stress techniques
- Work collaboratively with the oncology team and broader hospital staff
- Deliver high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment
Qualifications:
- Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT, RVT, CVT) or actively pursuing licensure
- Minimum of 2 years of veterinary technician experience preferred; oncology experience a plus
- Strong technical skills and attention to detail
- Familiarity with oncology-related diseases, medications, and protocols
- Comfort and proficiency in handling chemotherapeutic agents and adhering to safety standards
