Forward Deployed Engineer

United States

EVOCS OVERVIEW

EVOCS was founded with a clear purpose: to help businesses operate more effectively, solve complex challenges, and create opportunities for growth through practical expertise and technology solutions.

As an IT consulting firm, we work with our clients to understand their needs, identify the right technologies, and deliver solutions that improve performance and support their business objectives.

Today, EVOCS is a trusted technology partner to a growing number of organizations and industry leaders. Our team combines technical expertise, business understanding, and a commitment to quality to deliver effective solutions and build lasting client relationships based on responsiveness, consistency, and results.

Forward Deployed Engineer

Full-time, permanent | Remote-first

🎯 Role Overview

We are hiring builders, not tool users. A Forward Deployed Engineer at EVOCS is one person who can sit with a business stakeholder, understand the problem, decompose it into a workflow-based solution, select the right technology, and build a working prototype — typically within one to two days — then hand it to a delivery team and move to the next problem.

Your output is a workforce multiplier: you build the tool and hand it to someone else so they can do something they otherwise never could. You are not the long-term user or operator of what you build.

We are an AI-native firm: we build our own tooling, automate our own operations, and hold our client work to the same standard.

🧩 What You Will Do

  • Solution. Sit with business owners, understand inputs and required outcomes, and decompose ambiguous problems into buildable, workflow-based solutions on the spot.
  • Prototype. Build working prototypes fast — automations, integrations, internal applications — test them against a limited scope, and validate with the actual users within days, not weeks.
  • Hand off. Document the solution, hand it to delivery managers and delivery teams for productionization and rollout, then move on.
  • Internal platform work. Build and improve EVOCS's own back office: internal automations, auditing tools, reporting, and integrations across our HR, finance, PM, and IT systems.
  • Escalation SWAT. Act as rapid-response technical firepower on client escalations — diagnose the actual error, design the fix, and give the delivery team a concrete build plan within hours.
  • Pre-sales support. Contribute solution designs and technical approaches to RFP responses and client proposals when the pipeline needs them.

🧠 What You Will Bring

  • Full-stack proficiency: you can independently design, build, and ship an end-to-end solution — front end, back end, integration, and data layer.
  • Deep data literacy: data modeling, transformation, and migration; you know when a problem calls for a relational store, a NoSQL/document store, or an immutable event log, and can defend the choice.
  • Cloud infrastructure fluency (Azure and/or AWS): you can stand up, secure, and connect the services your solution needs.
  • Business decomposition skills: you can take a vague, high-level problem and break it into requirements, workflows, states, and edge cases without a business analyst doing it for you.
  • AI-native working style: you use modern AI tooling to compress work that used to take months (data wrangling, scaffolding, documentation) into hours — and you can build and repair your own harnesses when they break.
  • Judgment for the audience: you build simple. Solutions must work for non-technical users, not just for engineers.
  • 7+ years across software engineering, integration, or solution architecture roles, with a track record of shipping under time pressure.

🚫 What This Role Is Not

  • Not a project manager or delivery owner. Delivery managers own client relationships, escalation politics, resourcing, and margin.
  • Not a low-code-only operator. Off-the-shelf automation tools have their place, but if that is the ceiling of your toolkit, this is not the right role.
  • Not the long-term operator of what you build. You prototype, prove it, document it, hand it over, and move to the next problem.

🛠️ Show Us What You Build

The people who are strong in this role tend to have built things nobody asked them for. That evidence counts here, and it often counts more than what is on the resume.

  • Something you built end to end and shipped: front end, back end, integration, data.
  • An automation or internal tool you wrote because something annoyed you.
  • A prototype you turned around in days that changed what someone else was able to do.
  • A GitHub profile, a demo, a technical writeup, or a harness you built and then repaired when it broke.

Send links. Something working that we can look at will get you further with us than another certification.

⭐ What Will Make You Stand Out

  • Consulting or professional services delivery experience, building under client time pressure.
  • Integration and iPaaS depth, and familiarity with the enterprise systems we touch: HR, finance, PM, and ITSM platforms.
  • Experience building on top of LLM APIs: agents, tool harnesses, retrieval, and evaluation.
  • Data migration at scale, including the cleanup nobody scoped for.
  • Azure or AWS certification — useful, though never a substitute for what you have built.
  • Experience working across distributed delivery teams and multiple time zones.
  • Working Spanish, given our Argentina delivery hub.

🤝 How We Will Work Together

You report to the Chief Technology Officer. You are the front of the wedge: you prove the solution works, then delivery teams productionize and roll it out.

Delivery managers own the client relationship, escalation politics, resourcing, and margin. You own the build and whether it actually solves the problem. That line is deliberate, and it holds.

You will work alongside our Solution Architects, who design at the enterprise level while you prove the critical path in code.

Expect to move between a client escalation, internal platform work, and pre-sales support in the same week. If you want to sit inside one codebase for a year, this is the wrong role.

EVOCS is an equal opportunity employer.
