Overview:

The Business Development Specialist provides critical administrative and operational support across Excella’s Strategic Solutions & Growth (SSG) organization. This role maintains the tools, processes, and data that enable effective business development and capture activities across the enterprise.

The Business Development Specialist manages federal opportunity monitoring (eBuy, SAM.gov), CRM (Salesforce) administration, and BD reporting, while supporting BD outreach and learning activities that enhance Excella’s growth capabilities. This role ensures Excella’s growth infrastructure operates efficiently and enables informed, strategic pursuit decisions.

Responsibilities:

Business Development Operations

  • Monitor and disseminate new opportunities from eBuy, SAM.gov, and other federal acquisition sites.
  • Maintain Excella’s CRM (Salesforce) for accuracy, completeness, and data integrity across opportunities, contacts, and accounts.
  • Manage the cadence and quality of BD pipeline updates, dashboards, and reporting to SSG leadership.
  • Support proposal readiness by tracking opportunity status, deadlines, and compliance documentation.
  • Coordinate intake, assignment, and tracking of BD requests from leadership and capture teams.
  • Monitors the accuracy and efficient distribution of sales reports and other intelligence essential to the sales organization.  Recommends revisions to existing reports or assists in the development of new reports as needed.
  • Responsible for the overall management of the sales governance process.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining documentation on sales and sales governance processes and assists with on-boarding new sales executives.

Process & Systems Management

  • Proactively develops, maintains, and continuously improves SSG processes, templates, and knowledge repositories that support BD and capture operations.
  • Partner with IT and Marketing to ensure alignment of CRM workflows, content libraries, and opportunity tracking.
  • Support system enhancements and data governance to enable consistent reporting and portfolio visibility.
  • Maintain standardized procedures for opportunity tracking, lead qualification, and pursuit transitions.
  • Monitors sales organization compliance with required standards for maintaining CRM data.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization, process redesign, or development of new process/policies; develop operational measurements to identify business process issues and provide recommendations and solutions to business challenges.

Learning, Communication & Enablement

  • Support onboarding and enablement of BD and Capture team members on Excella’s BD tools, systems, and reporting dashboards.
  • Manage SSG SharePoint and documentation libraries to ensure accessibility and consistency of BD resources.
  • Coordinate internal communications around BD wins, lessons learned, and strategic priorities.
  • Assist in planning and facilitating BD-related training and learning sessions.
  • Provide reliable and timely operational support that enables SSG leaders to focus on strategy and growth execution.

Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of experience in business development, sales operations, or government contracting environments.
  • Proficiency in Salesforce CRM (or similar platforms) and Microsoft Office/SharePoint tools.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience monitoring federal procurement systems (eBuy, SAM.gov, FPDS, etc.).
  • Collaborative, service-oriented mindset with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • We are seeking people with a passion for helping others and who are eager to take on a variety of projects in a dynamic environment.
  • Proven problem solving and communication skills are required, and a quantitative or technical background is a big plus.
  • In depth knowledge and experience using Salesforce.com and fluency in Microsoft Office applications – particularly Excel.
  • Results-driven self-starter with the ability to multitask.
  • Strong initiative and ability to work in a self-directed environment with a can-do attitude and growth mindset.
