College Admissions Advisor
Are you a current or former college counselor at a private or college prep high school? If so, Varsity Tutors has students seeking exactly that expertise and guidance this summer. With the national student-to-counselor ratio at over 400 to 1, we’re connecting our rising 8th-12th graders with experienced college counselors to receive the admissions insight they need–and we want your help.
About the Role
Varsity Tutors is building a network of college planning experts to work with motivated high school students this summer through our live learning platform — and we're looking for experienced school counselors and college planning specialists to join us.
This isn't a typical consulting gig. You set your availability. Students book themselves. We handle scheduling, billing, and post-session summaries. You show up and do what you're best at.
We also provide session planning resources with structured, guided activities covering academic planning, extracurricular strategy, school research, and personal branding — so you can join each session with a completed student profile and a clear agenda.
What You'll Do
Work with rising 8th–11th graders on the foundational elements of their college journey: building a realistic and ambitious course plan, identifying and deepening extracurricular impact, establishing school selection criteria, and developing a year-by-year roadmap. Most of your students aren't applying yet — they're building the profile that will make the application work.
Who We're Looking For
- Current or former college counselor at a private, college preparatory, or independent high school
- Strong working knowledge of the college admissions process, AP/IB curriculum planning, and school selection frameworks
- Comfortable facilitating structured, goal-oriented sessions with students and families
- Experience working with motivated, high-achieving students and engaged parents
- Reliable availability during summer months (June–August) for 5-10 hours per week
What We're Offering
- $75/hour, paid automatically through the platform — no invoicing, no chasing payments
- Flexible scheduling: you set your calendar, students book into your open slots
- AI-generated session summaries delivered to students after each session — no recap emails for you to write
- Pre-built student intake forms and structured activity library help you arrive prepared for every session
- Students are existing Varsity Tutors members — no cold outreach or sales cycle required
- Opportunities to participate in project-based contract work in the admissions space, including webinars, podcast appearances, and activity/resource design
To Apply
Submit your resume and a brief note (3–5 sentences) on your counseling background and the grade levels and student profiles you've most enjoyed working with. We'll follow up with qualified applicants to schedule a 30-minute introductory call.
