Senior/Staff Rust Engineer (Backend) - White-label
Team: B2B White-Label VPN Platform

About the Role
As a Senior/Staff Rust Engineer, you’ll join a cross-functional team at a leading VPN provider trusted by millions worldwide. You’ll help build a next-generation white-label VPN platform, shaping the backend control plane and evolving our core SDK for enterprise integrations.
For us, Rust is not an experiment, but a strategic cornerstone technology for building robust, secure, and high-performance systems. In this role, you’ll not only help shape our technical transition to Rust, but also actively contribute to architecture decisions and long-term technology direction.
What you’ll Do:
- Design and build backend microservices powering the platform control plane: Tenant management (multi-tenant architecture); Entitlements; Authentication broker and identity flows
- Extend and maintain the Kape SDK core, ensuring performance, safety, and cross-platform compatibility
- Develop and operate REST/gRPC APIs for internal and external platform integrations
- Drive architectural decisions and select appropriate libraries/frameworks (e.g., Tokio, Actix) for scalability, observability, and performance
- Collaborate closely with DevOps, QA, and Architecture teams
- Conduct code reviews and ensure high code quality through automated testing
- Contribute to engineering best practices (testing, code quality, documentation)
What you’ll bring:
- Solid experience with Rust, including asynchronous programming (Tokio or async-std)
- Experience with microservice architecture and REST/gRPC APIs
- Proficient in Git and comfortable working with build tools and CI/CD pipelines
- Familiarity with system architecture, memory management, and low-level programming
- Proficiency in object-oriented principles within Rust (traits, generics, dyn vs impl)
- Strong understanding of lifetimes and the borrow checker
- Solid English communication skills, both written and spoken (team language)
Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with UniFFI or cross-platform library design is a plus
- Familiarity with security topics (e.g., memory safety, sandboxing, secure coding practices)
- Knowledge of WebAssembly, embedded development, or blockchain technologies
- Experience working on multi-tenant (B2B SaaS) platforms
