Lead Product Designer
About the Role
Are you a Senior/Lead Product Designer who thrives at the intersection of deep craft, strategic thinking, and cross-functional influence in a fast-evolving digital product environment?
Our team designs experiences that engage, convert, and delight users while advancing our mission to make the internet more private and secure. Guided by experimentation, data, and deep collaboration, we craft thoughtful, performance-focused user journeys across apps, web, and emerging AI-powered surfaces. We are never satisfied with the status quo.
We currently have an experienced design team working across our core mobile apps (Android and iOS), desktop apps (Windows, Mac, Qt, Linux), router app, browser extensions, and our main website. As the Lead Product Designer, you will be the senior IC voice—setting the craft standard, driving complex design problems end-to-end, working closely with the Product Design Manager, engineering, and product teams, and driving measurable design outcomes across platforms.
What You’ll Do
As a Lead Product Designer, you will:
Drive complex design end-to-end: Lead product design across 7+ platforms—iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, browser extensions, router, and web—defining user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity interfaces that are both visually refined and strategically sound.
Set the craft standard: Act as the senior design voice on the team, upholding a high-quality bar, pushing thinking further, and modeling best-in-class design practices in close partnership with the Product Design Manager and Head of Design.
Ground design in user research: Facilitate user research to understand behaviors, needs, and security-related concerns, and translate findings into informed, well-reasoned design decisions aligned with user and business goals.
Prototype and validate solutions: Build interactive prototypes to explore and pressure-test design solutions, enabling fast validation with users and stakeholders before development.
Make security feel human: Apply UX best practices and product design thinking to simplify complex cybersecurity and privacy concepts—making technically dense experiences feel intuitive, approachable, and trustworthy.
Bridge product, engineering, and design: Translate technical requirements from engineers, product managers, and security experts into user-friendly design solutions, ensuring intent is preserved through handoff.
Influence product direction upward: Partner with product managers and senior stakeholders to shape product direction—bringing a design perspective into roadmap discussions, early-stage scoping, and prioritization.
Communicate upward with authority: Present design work to senior stakeholders and leadership with clarity and confidence—framing decisions in terms of user impact, business outcomes, and strategic fit.
Collaborate cross-functionally: Work closely with product, marketing, engineering, analytics, affiliate, and content teams to align design solutions with user needs and business objectives.
Test, learn, and iterate: Conduct usability testing, synthesize findings, and iterate rigorously—treating every release as a starting point, not an endpoint.
Design for accessibility and privacy: Ensure interfaces meet accessibility and privacy standards, treating inclusion and data protection as foundational requirements—not afterthoughts.
Maintain and evolve the design system: Own and evolve the design system, maintaining consistency across components, tokens, and documentation to support a scalable and coherent product experience.
Mentor and elevate the team: Mentor junior designers, contribute to a strong critique culture, and partner with the Product Design Manager to continuously raise the team’s quality bar.
Integrate AI into your workflow: Champion AI-powered design tools such as Figma AI, Claude, and Gemini to accelerate workflows, improve output quality, and help the team work smarter.
Participate in creative brainstorming: Actively contribute ideas, build on others’ thinking, and help teams move from problem to possibility.
