About the Role:

Extend runs a service-contract business where every dollar must be traceable from inbound merchant data, through our operational and analytics databases, into the accounting system, and back out to obligor, reinsurer, and audit reporting. This role owns the systems and controls that keep that traceability automated, tested, and auditable as the business scales.

We are looking for a Director, Financial Systems Engineering to lead that work. The scope includes the invoicing logic, the financial data models the business reports from, and the automated controls that validate results before they reach an invoice. You’ll report into Engineering leadership, and you’ll lead a team of individual contributors.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You will own SQL and dbt models in version control, review and approve changes to the logic that produces reported numbers, and answer for the correctness of what comes out. You will also own the cross-functional escalation path across Solutions Engineering, Product Engineering, Data Engineering, Finance, Revenue/Go-to-Market, and Accounting when commercial commitments and system behavior need to be reconciled.

You will have wide latitude to shape how financial controls and revenue assurance work at a company growing quickly, including how much of that is handled in code.

What You’ll Do:

• Own the reconciliation system across contracts sold, merchant invoicing, claims paid, and servicing reimbursements. Build automated tie-outs with alerting between inbound merchant data, operational databases, the analytics warehouse, the accounting system, and external reporting, so that variances surface quickly and are routed to an owner.
• Own the invoicing logic and the programmatic controls that keep contracted commercial terms accurately reflected in it.
• Own the financial data models the business reports from, including the logic that recognizes contract revenue as contracts mature and the record of what claims cost us. These live in the shared dbt repository and follow its platform standards for tests, PR review, and change control. You own the business logic in these models and review every change to it.
• Partner with the merchant integration and Data Engineering teams on merchant configuration. They own ingestion and mapping. You facilitate internal audits of how inbound merchant formats map to internal representations, and work with them to resolve what those audits surface, so that expense and contract attribution holds up downstream.
• Own the exception and reconciliation-break process, covering triage, resolution ownership, and root-cause tracking with SLAs on detection latency, so that findings inform systemic improvements.
• Partner with Revenue/Go-to-Market on merchant escalations, including direct merchant engagement on billing questions, and coordinate across Solutions Engineering, Product Engineering, Data Engineering, Finance, and Accounting on who needs to do what, when, and why.
• Partner with Revenue/Go-to-Market during deal structuring to confirm that proposed terms are supportable by the systems at contract signing.
• Prepare obligor, reinsurer, and audit reporting on contracts, liabilities, and claims, and partner with the Controller on review and presentation.
• Identify team needs from business needs and grow the team accordingly.

What We’re Looking For:

• Advanced SQL and dimensional data modeling. You own, review, and change the transformation logic behind financial reporting in a cloud data warehouse (we run Snowflake). You are accountable for that logic rather than a consumer of it.
• Analytics engineering practice. Experience owning financial or analytical models in dbt (or equivalent) under version control, with testing, PR review, CI, and controlled change of the logic that produces reported numbers. Python for data validation or reconciliation tooling is a plus.
• Experience designing order-to-cash systems and automated reconciliation controls at scale.
• Deep revenue recognition expertise, including ownership of the logic that recognizes revenue on multi-year service contracts as they mature, and the ability to document and defend technical accounting positions with external auditors.
• NetSuite functional depth in billing, invoicing, and revenue, including segment and subsidiary attribution, and comfort reasoning about how it integrates with upstream systems.
• Strong written communication and a record of building alignment across Finance, Accounting, and Engineering partner teams.
• Prior experience leading individual contributors in a technical or analytics engineering function.
• Bonus: experience with merchant reconciliation, warranty or service contract programs, or obligor and reinsurer reporting.

Expected Pay Range: $225,000 - $250,000 per year salaried*

*The target base salary range for this position is listed above. Individual salaries are determined based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skills and experience.
