The Opportunity

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company's general accounting functions, including general ledger management, financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and compliance. Success will depend on strong critical thinking, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to communicate and collaborate with cross-functional teams. Reporting to the VP of Finance this position will supervise the Senior Accountant and Staff Accountant, fostering a positive and productive work environment. This is a hybrid position where you will work on-site in Danville Tuesdays -Thursdays. *Please note that we are not in a position to support visa sponsorship at this time.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the preparation, analysis, and presentation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP
  • Directly supervise the Accounting team, analyze and report on financial performance, ensure data integrity, cash management, account reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, necessary accounting control systems, and balance sheet management
  • Ensure all general ledger accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis and discrepancies are resolved promptly
  • Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes, including reviewing journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
  • Work with the Accounting team to ensure reliable internal controls, inventory accounting management (SKU creation, assembly builds, product costing, inventory adjustments, bills of material); accurate timing and application of revenue recognition rules
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings to support the achievement of companywide priorities. Provide accounting expertise and ensure alignment with financial objectives across all departments
  • Assist in testing and implementation of new products and services to ensure accurate accounting data flow across systems, such as from the e-commerce platform to NetSuite financial software
  • Responsible for hierarchy and scalability in chart of accounts and accuracy in the general ledger and financial statements and has ultimate authority over classification and booking of all transactions
  • Oversee the processing of customer credit applications and ensure they are handled accurately and efficiently
  • Manage customer credit and rewards programs
  • Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with corporate policies and regulations
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements in accounting operations and lead initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy
  • Oversee sales and use tax compliance, managing the timely filing of returns and payments
  • Review expense reimbursement submissions ensuring adherence to corporate policies
  • Support internal and external audits by supplying required documentation and preparing financial reports
  • Monitor daily cash flow, manage cash balances, and prepare cash flow forecasts
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of accounts receivable and accounts payable, including invoicing, billing, cost classifications, and check runs
  • Assist in coordinating annual insurance renewals, audits, and filing necessary forms
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of accountants, including the Senior Accountant and Staff Accountant, fostering a positive and productive work environment
  • Coordinate the daily activities of the accounting team to ensure efficient workflow and accurate financial data
  • Participate in strategic financial projects including improvement to financial systems related to NetSuite, Shopify, and new technology implementations specifically to ensure data integrity, accuracy and minimizing risk
  • Collaborate with the VP of Finance/Controller on special projects, including system upgrades, process improvements, and the implementation of new financial software

 

The Qualifications:

  • BS or BA in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration, or equivalent work experience 
  • CPA is a nice to have, but not required
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and experience with financial reporting
  • Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite or SAP; advanced Excel skills required
  • Ability to recognize and resolve transaction issues arising from system integrations
  • Familiarity with managing sales transactions generated from online stores a plus
  • Proven track record in managing and developing accounting teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Work Experience in public accounting a plus  
  • Strong understanding of financial accounting (debit and credits)
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting (including cash flow statements) and has strong analytical skills 
  • Inventory accounting management experience preferred 
  • Manages change well; growth, problems, difficulties
  • Comfortable and proficient at preparing and giving presentations at corporate meetings
  • Applies creativity in generating solutions to problems
  • Practices outstanding attention to detail
  • Has excellent organizational skills 
  • Motivates both direct reports and cross-functional partners, and leads by example

 

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Ability to move around the office including stooping, crouching, and/or kneeling to troubleshoot issues
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a clean driving record
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in verbal and written form
  • Comfortable lifting, pushing, and pulling equipment and materials
  • Comfortable using a computer, keyboard, and mouse

Salary Range: $135-145k plus bonus and full benefits package
