Director, Business Operations
Factored was conceived in Palo Alto, California by Andrew Ng and a team of highly experienced AI researchers, educators, and engineers to help address the significant shortage of qualified AI & Machine-Learning engineers globally. As we scale, we’re looking for a Director of Business Operations. The ideal candidate is a strategic and execution-driven leader who can act as the operational backbone of the company, ensuring alignment, efficiency, and measurable impact across all areas of the business. You will oversee and optimize Factored’s core operations across Talent Operations and Client Success while driving cross-functional alignment and operational excellence throughout the organization. This role blends strategic leadership and hands-on execution: you’ll diagnose business challenges, design scalable solutions and participate in the implementation.
What you will be doing:
Operational Leadership & Strategy
- Design, implement, and continuously improve Factored’s operating model to ensure agility, scalability, and alignment with business goals.
- Define key metrics, dashboards, and OKRs to measure operational performance and drive data-informed decision-making.
- Translate strategic goals into actionable plans that optimize workflows, systems, and accountability across teams.
- Partner closely with the VP of Operations and the leadership team to drive cross-functional initiatives that improve efficiency, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
Cross-Functional Efficiency & Problem Solving
- Act as a general-purpose problem solver for high-impact challenges across the organization.
- Map and optimize interdependencies between departments (Talent, Engineering, Client Success, Sales, Finance, People Ops, etc.) to ensure smooth, integrated operations.
- Identify and implement opportunities for automation, process integration, and waste reduction using lean and data-driven approaches.
- Design and implement a rigorous performance management system for Engineering initiatives (e.g., Training, R&D, Bench Experience), ensuring alignment with timelines and business objectives. Implement rigorous project tracking, report mechanisms, accountability standards, and performance reporting.
Talent Operations
- Oversee demand and supply alignment & optimization, partnering with talentops leaders to design and execute efficient recruiting, vetting, and matching processes for our engineering talent.
- Identify process bottlenecks and leverage data and automation to improve cycle times, quality, and scalability.
- Collaborate with Talent, Product, and Data teams to build systems that ensure consistent operational excellence.
Client Success & Delivery
- Strengthen structure and the end-to-end processes, including onboarding, client support, engineer support (client-related), and delivery, to ensure long-term customer satisfaction and revenue growth.
What You Bring to Factored
- +5 years in top-tier management consulting (e.g., EY, KPMG, Deloitte, pwc)
- At least 4+ years leading or scaling operations in a startup or scale-up environment.
- Proven experience designing and implementing operating models or improving organizational efficiency.
- Experience working on complex, high-impact business problems, driving from analysis to execution.
- Experience leading or building high-performing teams of A-players.
- Analytical and data-driven thinker; skilled at building, analyzing, and cleaning databases to uncover insights.
- Advanced Excel, SQL: ability to manipulate data to inform strategic decisions.
- Exposure to programming languages or process automation tools is a plus.
- Understanding of lean methodologies, process mapping, and operational efficiency design.
- Exceptional problem-solving and structured thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Advanced English proficiency (spoken and written).
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or related field.
