Data Architect
Fully remote | Complete engagement job
Founded in Palo Alto by Dr. Andrew Ng and Israel Niezen, Factored helps U.S. companies build and scale world-class AI, ML, and Data teams, powered by the top 1% of LATAM talent, with a defining purpose: To empower brilliant humans, unleash their potential, and amplify their impact in the world.
At Factored, you’ll be part of a community that values learning, ownership, and authenticity, where your growth is personal and your ideas matter. We’re transparent, curious, and collaborative. We strive for excellence, celebrate diversity, encourage curiosity, and build an environment where you can truly thrive.
As a Data Architect, you will engage full-time in designing and evolving the data architectures that power intelligent products for global and Fortune 500 organizations. You will define scalable data models, architect distributed data systems, and establish the foundational structures that enable operational applications, analytics, and AI-driven products.
This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy solving complex data architecture challenges, translating business domains into well-designed data models, and building production-ready schemas that support both transactional and analytical workloads. You'll work closely with software engineers, platform teams, and stakeholders to create data architectures that are scalable, maintainable, and built for long-term growth.
We are especially interested in candidates with strong expertise in relational data modeling, PostgreSQL, event-driven architectures, and modern cloud data platforms such as Snowflake and Databricks. Experience designing distributed systems and domain-driven architectures is highly valued.
Functional Responsibilities:
- Design scalable conceptual, logical, and physical data models that support business applications and analytics.
- Architect and implement production-ready database schemas for complex business domains using relational databases such as PostgreSQL.
- Define data architecture standards, naming conventions, governance principles, and modeling best practices.
- Design scalable data structures that support transactional systems, reporting, machine learning, and AI use cases.
- Develop entity relationship diagrams (ERDs), data dictionaries, and architecture documentation to support long-term maintainability.
- Design efficient indexing strategies, partitioning approaches, and query optimization techniques to improve performance at scale.
- Establish data modeling patterns for distributed systems and domain-driven architectures.
- Design event-driven data models and schemas that enable reliable communication across services using technologies such as Kafka.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to define data contracts, schema evolution strategies, and data quality standards.
- Design cross-service data patterns using logical references and event-based integrations while maintaining clear ownership boundaries.
- Partner with Data Engineering, Software Engineering, AI/ML, and Analytics teams to ensure data architectures support both operational and analytical workloads.
- Support data migration initiatives, including schema evolution, legacy modernization, and data validation strategies.
- Ensure data architectures meet security, compliance, governance, and scalability requirements.
- Contribute to architectural decisions around cloud-native data platforms and modern data ecosystems.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of professional experience designing and implementing production-grade data architectures.
- Strong computer science fundamentals, including databases, distributed systems, algorithms, and software design principles.
- Expert knowledge of relational database design and normalization techniques.
- Extensive experience with PostgreSQL, including schema design, indexing, query optimization, constraints, and performance tuning.
- Experience designing conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
- Strong understanding of domain-driven design (DDD) principles and service-oriented or microservice architectures.
- Experience designing event-driven systems using technologies such as Kafka.
- Experience designing schemas that support both operational systems and analytical data platforms.
- Experience with cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, or similar technologies.
- Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Experience with infrastructure and cloud-native technologies such as Kubernetes or Terraform is a plus.
- Experience modeling hierarchical or multi-tenant data structures is highly desirable.
- Experience designing authorization, identity, and access-control data models is a plus.
- Familiarity with JSON/JSONB data modeling and schema evolution strategies.
- Experience supporting large-scale data migrations and modernization initiatives.
- Familiarity with version control systems such as Git.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
Our Benefits:
- Ownership through equity participation.
- Annual company retreat.
- Education bonus for continuous learning.
- Company-wide winter break.
- Paid time off.
- Optional in-person events and meetups.
- Tailored career roadmaps.
- High-performance culture.
