Sr. Safety Manager

The construction of fairlife's manufacturing facility in Webster, NY is underway. This state-of-the-art, 750k sq ft, greenfield plant is expected to be operational in late 2025 and will lay the foundation for fairlife's next phase of growth as the leading dairy nutrition provider. While coupling the industry’s latest technologies and fairlife's operational excellence to build this world-class facility, fairlife plans to hire 250 new employees and bring in approximately 5 million lbs. of milk a day, with room to grow over the coming years.

job purpose: The Sr. Safety Manager will be part of the management team within fairlife, LLC reporting to the Safety Director. This position oversees the Safety programs for the Webster production facility. This role is paramount in setting up and maintaining best practice systems at our new Webster facility. This individual will own compliance with Safety laws and regulations, as well as develop and implement KORE programs for the facility.

responsibilities:

· Oversee and administer safety systems for the Webster facility, provide expert guidance and consultation to management, and own compliance with all Federal, State, and local EHS laws and regulations and all applicable reporting submissions.

· Design and implement health & safety training programs, services, strategies, and initiatives that are responsive to the needs of the company’s facilities and guarantees close integration with overall company policy; monitor program efficiency, develop reporting procedures and other methods to measure success, and revise processes and procedures as necessary to improve program effectiveness and support a zero-accident objective

· Develop and maintain written departmental procedures to guide management in the application of established safety processes and documentation

· Establish and implement short- and long-range goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates program/project effectiveness; effects changes required for improvement

· Perform training needs analyses and initiate, develop, and/or coordinate the implementation of specific training and development programs for management, staff, and operators; conducts new employee orientation and associated activities for safety systems. Examples include First Aid/CPR/AED, etc.

· Have expertise in OSHA, and track and perform required training annually; experience in participating in VPP (Voluntary Protection Program) is desired

· Execute plant evacuation drills bi-annually to lead and implement the Emergency Evacuation Program

· Maintain frequent presence on manufacturing plant floor

· Conduct regular safety audits throughout the plant, to include evaluation of job requirements and ergonomics

· Develop, implement, and maintain visual safety goals vs actuals for use in each department

· Plan, coordinate, and supervise the execution of capitol and expense projects related to health & safety programs

· Manage our site safety team 

· Ability to problem-solve and incident investigation

 

skills/qualifications required:

· Bachelor's of Science Degree in Safety or related field or at least 5 + years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified for a Safety professional in an industrial/manufacturing setting

· Skilled in organizing resources, establishing priorities, and meeting critical deadlines

· Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information

· Skilled in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures

· Make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues

· Analyze and assess training and development needs, with the ability to supervise and train staff, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments

· Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to develop and deliver presentations

· Knowledge and understanding of federal and state laws, regulations, procedures, and standards

· Knowledge and understanding of employment and union avoidance practices

 

highly preferred skillset:

· Experience in LOTO and machine guarding programs for high-speed manufacturing plants

· Adaptability with change management and culture

· Experience leading and developing a behavior-based safety program

· Experience with workers compensation and injury case management

· Program experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Power BI Analytics

 

food safety requirements:

· Notify supervision of any repairs or adjustments that are required that may affect product quality or food safety.

· Understand, observe, and comply with the handling and usage of the color-coded container policy while in the Production Areas.

· Perform all duties necessary to meet Company, Customer and/or Government requirements/standards as prioritized by the Company.

· Ability to initiate action to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the product, processes, quality system, or safety system.

· Identify and record any problems relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the ingredients, processes, quality system, or safety system.

· Control further processing or delivery of nonconforming product in terms of Food Safety and Quality issues until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.

· In the event of absence, another employee with the same skill level will assume the duties and responsibilities as required.

reports to: Safety Director (Dotted Line Plant Director)

travel requirements: 5-10% annually, with increased travel expected during training and onboarding period

exempt/nonexempt: Exempt

 

base pay* range: $120,000 - 130,000
