Job Summary

Falcon Steel is seeking a meticulous Quality Control Inspector to oversee the integrity of our fabrication process. You will be responsible for the "first and last look"—inspecting raw materials as they arrive and conducting final audits on finished assemblies before they ship to the job site. This role is critical to maintaining our reputation for excellence and ensuring all projects meet strict engineering specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Incoming Inspection: Verify all incoming raw materials (beams, plates, hardware) against purchase orders and Mill Test Reports (MTRs) for size, grade, and quantity.
  • In-Process & Final Audits: Inspect fabricated steel components for dimensional accuracy, weld quality, and adherence to shop drawings.
  • Blueprint Proficiency: Read and interpret complex structural blueprints and CAD drawings to ensure fabricated parts match design intent.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed inspection logs, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and shipping clearances to ensure full traceability.
  • Testing: Utilize precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, tape measures, weld gauges) and perform visual inspections of welds.
  • Loading Oversight: Perform final "pre-shipment" checks on outgoing trucks to ensure the right parts are loaded and properly secured.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the shop foreman and welders to correct issues in real-time and prevent recurring errors.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 2–3 years of QC experience in a structural steel fabrication or heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Technical Skills: Expert-level ability to read shop drawings and blueprints.
  • Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with AWS (American Welding Society) and AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction) standards is highly preferred.
  • Attention to Detail: An eagle eye for detail and a "zero-defect" mindset.
  • Communication: Ability to clearly explain technical discrepancies to production staff and management.
  • Physical Ability: Must be comfortable navigating a shop floor, climbing onto trailers for inspections, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
