This individual will report to the Head of Cloud SRE, Database, & DevOps Engineering. Other key relationships will include cybersecurity analysts and software development engineers.
Job Overview
We are seeking a Senior Level Database Engineer to join our engineering team, with a primary focus on designing, building, and managing mission-critical database platforms that underpin our trading and investment systems.
This role is database-first, centered on engineering, performance, and reliability of enterprise data platforms, including Microsoft SQLServer, Snowflake,and Databricks and/or similar experience with RDMS technologies (e.g., Sybase, DB2).
Beyond database engineering, the role extends into cloud infrastructure (AWS) and DevOps practices for cloud-native relational systems such as AWS Aurora and RDS PostgreSQL; enabling scalable, automated, and well-governed environments for data-intensive workloads.
Desired experience in migrating RDMS to AWS/Azure cloud database solutions. In addition, desired experience with AI database technologies such as Vector DBs/Embeddings, Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), data streaming, data governance.
This is a hands-on engineering role requiring solid expertise in database systems, strong cloud fundamentals, and an ability to partner closely with application, data, and platform teams to deliver performance, secure, and efficient data solutions.
Major Responsibilities
Database Engineering & Data Platforms (Primary Focus)
- Design, build, and operate enterprise-grade database platforms with a focus on:
- SQL Server, Databricks and Snowflake (core systems)
- AWS Aurora and RDS PostgreSQL
- Additional platforms such as Sybase, DB2, and similar technologies
- Manage and optimize database performance, scalability, and availability across on-premises and cloud environments
- Implement best practices for query optimization, indexing, schema design, and workload management
- Own database lifecycle management including provisioning, patching, upgrades, and capacity planning
- Design and execute backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies
- Desired experience in migrating RDMS to AWS/Azure cloud database solutions.
- Collaborate with data and application teams to model and evolve data architectures supporting trading, analytics, and reporting workloads
- Ensure strong data governance, security, and access controls across all platforms
What We Value
Preferred experience with:
Cloud Engineering
- Design and manage database infrastructure and supporting systems in AWS (preferred) and/or Azure
- Deploy and manage cloud-native database services (Aurora, RDS, Snowflake integrations)
- Build scalable, resilient architectures supporting high-performance data workloads
- Implement infrastructure as code using Terraform or similar tools
- Optimize cloud resource utilization and cost efficiency for database and data platforms
- Support hybrid and multi-cloud data architectures
DevOps & Automation
- Develop automation for database provisioning, configuration, and operations
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines supporting database changes and data platform deployments (CDTKF, Dagster, Airflow, etc)
- Promote version-controlled database development and Git-based workflows
- Enable repeatable deployment patterns for schema changes and data pipelines
- Improve engineering efficiency through tooling, automation, and standardization
Monitoring, Performance & Reliability
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and observability for database systems using tools such as Datadog, CloudWatch, LogicMonitor or similar
- Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across database and data platforms
- Ensure high availability and resilience of critical data systems
- Partner with cybersecurity teams to implement secure database configurations, encryption, and compliance controls
Data & Emerging Platforms
- Support modern data ecosystems, including Snowflake and Databricks and cloud-native analytics platforms
- Enable data pipelines and integration patterns for structured and unstructured data
- Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies relevant to data engineering and analytics
Nice to Have:
Data Platforms & Analytics
- Familiarity with modern data architectures (data lakes, lakehouses)
- Experience integrating Snowflake or similar databases (Redshift, BigQuery, etc) with cloud data pipelines
Financial Services
- Experience supporting trading or investment systems
- Understanding of financial data flows, market data, or trading platforms
We anticipate the base salary of this role to be between $225,000-250,000. In addition to a base salary, the successful candidate will also be eligible to receive a discretionary year-end bonus.
