Family of Kidz is seeking a Bus Behavior Attendant to support students with special needs during transportation to and from school. This role combines student supervision, bus safety, and individualized behavior support to help students travel safely while allowing the driver to focus on driving.

Details about this opportunity: 

  • Location: Nassau/and or Suffolk
  • Hours: Part-time; hours vary based on school district transportation schedules
  • Schedule: Follows the school district calendar, including holidays and breaks
  • Compensation: $30 per hour

 Responsibilities: 

  • Greet students warmly and provide individualized support during boarding, travel, and departure from the bus
  • Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment throughout each bus route
  • Assist students with mobility, seating, and the proper use of seat belts or other approved safety equipment, consistent with training and transportation procedures
  • Implement individualized behavior support plans and applicable skill acquisition programs under the direction of a behavior consultant or clinical supervisor.
  • Use trained strategies to support safe behavior, positive interactions, and successful transitions
  • Collect behavioral data and communicate progress, concerns, and incidents to designated supervisors and school personnel, as applicable
  • Help the driver remain focused on driving by managing student supervision and support needs
  • Support safe student handoffs to designated school staff or authorized adults in accordance with district procedures.
  • Follow established emergency procedures, incident reporting requirements, and crisis prevention protocols within the scope of training
  • Maintain student confidentiality in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations
  • Understand and demonstrate the company’s core values
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the role

 

About You:

  • Sound judgment and a problem-solving mindset
  • Exposure to the practice of maintaining a high level of confidentiality
  • Excellent time management/organizational skills 
  • Empathetic & considerate of others
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment 
  • The ability to work collaboratively and follow individualized student plans and safety procedures

 And this background: 

  • High school diploma required
  • Minimum of six months of experience working with children or adolescents with special needs in a supervised setting
  • Reliable transportation to and from the assigned reporting location
  • Successful completion of, or current enrollment in, an undergraduate program in psychology, healthcare, human services, education, or a related field preferred
  • Experience supporting students with autism and/or challenging behaviors preferred
  • Bilingual skills are a plus
