Job Type: Full-Time
Salary Range: $110,000-$140,000 plus equity
Job Summary:
We are seeking a strategic, operationally excellent Controller to build and lead our Accounting function at FamilyWell. This role is critical to the company’s next phase of growth. As we scale our AI-enabled mental health platform nationwide, you will oversee all core accounting operations—from month-end close through audit readiness—and partner closely with our Revenue Cycle team to ensure accurate, compliant revenue recognition.
This role goes far beyond maintaining the books. As Controller, you will serve as the architect of our financial foundation, pairing accounting rigor with strategic insight to help manage burn, optimize spend, and extend runway. The ideal candidate thrives at the intersection of high-level financial strategy and hands-on operational execution, bringing both precision and perspective to a fast-growing healthcare organization.
Accounting & Financial Control (The "Past & Present")
- Month-End Close: Lead the full close process to produce timely, GAAP-compliant financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow).
- Revenue Recognition: Partner with the Revenue Ops lead to ensure complex healthcare billing is correctly recorded under ASC 606 standards.
- Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable: Oversee all vendor payments, manage corporate credit card activity, and ensure timely collection of monthly invoices from clinics.
- Tax & Compliance: Oversee state and federal filings, manage sales tax/nexus in new expansion states, and lead the relationship with external tax/audit firms.
- Internal Controls: Design and implement financial policies (e.g., procurement limits, expense approvals) to safeguard startup capital.
- Treasury: Monitor bank balances and manage cash flows to optimize interest and liquidity.
FP&A & Strategic Analysis (The "Future")
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Own the annual operating budget and update the rolling 12-month forecast based on actual performance.
- Variance Analysis: Lead monthly "Actuals vs. Budget" reviews with department heads to identify and correct spend overages.
- Burn & Runway Modeling: Maintain a real-time model of cash burn and runway, providing the CEO with "what-if" scenarios for future fundraising.
- Headcount Planning: Build the financial models for clinical scaling, factoring in recruitment costs, benefits, and ramp-up time for new providers.
- Board Reporting: Translate complex financial data into clear, high-level slides and narratives for Board of Directors meetings and investor updates.
- Unit Economics: Analyze the "bottom line" efficiency of the business and gross margins.
Qualifications
Required:
- Experience: 5–8 years of progressive accounting and finance experience in a healthcare environment, with at least 2 years in a high-growth startup.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Technical Mastery: Expert-level Excel/Google Sheets skills (including three‑statement modeling), proficiency with QuickBooks Online and the ability to lead a future transition to a more advanced ERP system such as NetSuite or Sage Intacct. Familiarity with EHR systems, billing platforms, and BI tools.
- Strategic Mindset: Proven ability to move beyond transactional accounting into "financial storytelling"—explaining the why behind the numbers.
- Startup Grit: Comfortable in a "scrappy" environment where you must build the systems you use.
- Experience with healthcare revenue cycle management
- (Strongly preferred) Background in women's health, maternal health, or behavioral health services
What We Offer

- Growth Opportunity: Help build and scale financial operations at a Series A company with significant expansion ahead

- Competitive Compensation: Base salary commensurate with experience plus equity, comprehensive benefits, and 401(k)
