About the Team

Launched in 2021, Fanatics Betting and Gaming is the online and retail sports betting subsidiary of Fanatics, a global digital sports platform. The Fanatics Sportsbook is available to 95% of the addressable online sports bettor market in the U.S. Fanatics Casino is currently available online in Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Fanatics Betting and Gaming operates twenty-two retail sports betting locations, including the only sportsbook inside an NFL stadium at Northwest Stadium. Fanatics Betting and Gaming is headquartered in New York with offices in Denver, Leeds and Dublin.

Senior Software Engineer - Loyalty Team, Ireland

As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll join the Promotions Platform team within FBG. You will play a key role in designing, implementing, and evolving systems that enable customers to engage with FBG's promotional ecosystem at scale. In addition to delivering high-quality software, you will be expected to take ownership of system design, influence architectural decisions, and drive best practices across the team. You will contribute to backend features that power rewards and promotions across the Fanatics ecosystem, while helping to shape the next generation of promotional tools. This role requires a balance of hands-on development, technical leadership, and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, document, and deploy high-quality, scalable software into production
  • Take ownership of services and features end-to-end, from design through to production and iteration
  • Drive technical design discussions and contribute to architectural decision-making across the team
  • Build features and internal tools that improve developer productivity and system performance
  • Clarify requirements and contribute to scoping, estimation, and planning of complex workstreams
  • Participate in on-call rotations and lead troubleshooting of production issues when needed
  • Identify risks early, drive root cause analysis, and implement long-term solutions
  • Deliver solutions that are logical, testable, maintainable, and efficient at scale
  • Make thoughtful trade-offs across performance, scalability, reliability, and cost
  • Lead and contribute to code reviews, providing constructive and actionable feedback
  • Drive improvements in testability, observability, and operational excellence across services
  • Influence and uphold engineering standards, best practices, and team-wide technical direction
  • Partner closely with product, design, and cross-functional stakeholders to shape solutions
  • Mentor and support engineers across the team, helping to raise the overall technical bar
  • Develop a strong understanding of the domain, product roadmap, and business impact
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and bring forward new ideas to improve the platform
  • Be open to occasional travel to Fanatics Betting & Gaming offices and other locations for collaboration and team events

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience building highly scalable, fault-tolerant systems
  • Strong experience with Java and Spring Boot in production environments
  • Solid experience working within cloud-native environments (AWS preferred)
  • Proven ability to design and build microservices-based architectures
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems and system design principles
  • Experience debugging and resolving complex, system-wide production issues
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring or supporting other engineers
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience working in Agile environments and contributing to team delivery
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a pragmatic mindset
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment with changing priorities
  • Team-first mentality with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across teams in a large-scale enterprise environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Java/Spring Boot at scale
  • Experience working with AWS (EKS, Lambda, or similar services)
  • Experience with PostgreSQL or similar databases
  • Experience in event-driven architectures (e.g. Kafka)
  • Experience working in high-growth or startup-like environments
